FAHR (the Federal Authority For Government Human Resources) in the UAE has just announced that Hijri New Year holiday for Federal entities is only 10 days away.Â

According to the statement posted on social media, “It has been decided that the Hijri New Year holiday for the year 1442 in the Federal Government of the United Arab Emirates will be on Sunday, 23rd of August 2020, and regular working hours will resume on Monday, 24th of August 2020.” For those who work in the public sector, or federal government, this means a three-day weekend.Â
The Hijri New Year, also known as the Islamic New Year, marks the beginning of a new Islamic year, which follows a lunar calendar.Â
