Netflix’s Harry & Meghan documentary full series has dropped so many bombshells that we need to take lie down in a dark room just to process. As well as claiming that stories were ‘planted’ in the press by the Royal Family and that Prince William ‘screamed and shouted’ at him over his decision to leave the UK, Prince Harry also suggests in episode four that his wife Meghan Markle was doing the royal job “better than the person born to do it”. See, we told ya it was juicy!
But, amidst all the royal tea that was spilled, there remain a lot of unanswered questions that have left viewers (read: us) wanting more. With that in mind, here’s a round-up of all the questions we still have after watching the Harry & Meghan documentary. Hopefully, some of these will be answered in the Duke of Sussex’s upcoming autobiography, the aptly-named Spare. If not, this is a hard hint that Netflix needs to make a second season…
Unanswered questions from Netflix’s Harry & Meghan series
Which royal asked about Archie’s skin tone?
Without doubt, the most shocking allegation mic dropped by Harry and Meghan since their departure from the royal ranks, was the accusation that a Royal Family member raised “concerns” about how “dark” their son’s skin tone would be.
Royal fans will remember the revelation was made during the Sussexes’ interview with Oprah Winfrey last year. Meghan alleged that there were “several conversations” about Archie’s skin tone and “what that would mean or look like”. When Oprah asked who had made such comments, Meghan refused to say, but added that “it would be very damaging to them” were it publicly known.
Since then, there’s been no word on who made the alleged comments about Archie’s race, but at the time, the Palace denied rumours that this came from the now King Charles III.
What was on Prince Harry’s list of requirements for a wife?
Meghan Markle reveals in episode one that Prince Harry once had a list of requirements for his future wife. “He had a list, apparently, of what he was looking for,” she says. “An extensive list.”
When pressed about what was on this list, the Duke shut down any speculation, replying: “Let’s not go there… not sharing the list… good, nice try.”

Did Meghan Markle actually have a feud with Kate Middleton over a dress?
Much of the Harry & Meghan documentary explores how the couple were treated by the British press, which included rumours that the Duchess and her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, were involved in an argument.
To recap, several months after Meghan and Harry got married, a news story broke that Kate was “left in tears” after Princess Charlotte’s dress fitting for Meghan’s wedding. In her interview with Oprah, Meghan pointed out how she felt this was a prime example of how she was consistently and needlessly villainised by the UK press.
Despite touching on the rumoured feud in her Oprah interview, Meghan doesn’t discuss this in the Netflix series.
Who was Prince Harry talking about when he said there is a “temptation” in the Royal Family to marry someone who “fits the mould”?
In Volume I of Netflix’s Harry & Meghan documentary, Prince Harry discusses the pressures attached to marriage within the Royal Family. “For so many people in the family, especially the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to somebody who you perhaps are destined to be with,” he says.
With no specific indication as to who Harry is talking about, viewers at home were left guessing, with many theorising that he could be talking about his father, who married Princess Diana despite his love affair with Camilla Parker Bowles – who he later went on to wed. Meanwhile, other fans hinted that Harry could be talking about Prince William and Kate Middleton, who has been a firm favourite with the British public and the press since day dot.
What happened between Meghan Markle and Jason Knauf?
Throughout Netflix‘s docu-series, there are several mentions of a man called Jason Knauf – but, little information is given about who he is, what his connection is to the Sussexes and what their relationship is like now.
In fact, Knauf was once the couple’s communications secretary and aide, becoming a close friend and earning himself an invitation to their 2018 wedding. But, the trio later had a falling out and Knauf testified against Meghan at trial over a private letter that was leaked to the press.
Why didn’t Prince Harry and Meghan Markle film the documentary in their own house?
Much of the to-camera interviews in the Harry & Meghan series were filmed inside a stunning mansion, which many fans presumed to be the couple’s £11 million family home in Montecito, California – although this was never suggested or confirmed by the couple.
In fact, it turns out that the mansion used in the Netflix documentary is actually a £27.3 million mansion which is currently up for sale. The mansion in question – which is reportedly just a short drive away from the Sussexes’ house – is 888 Lilac Drive, a sprawling property which boasts six bedrooms, six bathrooms and two half bathrooms.
Nevertheless, we do see snippets of their house throughout the series, notably in one scene where Meghan and Lilibet talk to a photo of Princess Diana, and in another where the Duchess feeds chickens in their coup.
Despite there being much talk on social media about the series not being filmed at the Sussexes’ actual home – despite being set up to appear as such – no answer is given as to why this was the case.

Has Meghan Markle’s mental health improved since leaving Royal Family?
Another key revelation that came from the Sussexes’ interview with Oprah was that Meghan had felt suicidal as a result of the press intrusion into her royal life. The Duchess further elaborated on this in Netflix’s documentary, claiming that she wasn’t permitted to seek mental health support as there was “concern about how that would look for the institution”.
In the docu-series, although Meghan doesn’t directly comment on her mental health since departing The Firm, from the clips shown in the series – which show her enjoying a quiet family life with her husband and children, as well as partaking in activism work – viewers can assume that she is in a better headspace following her move to the US.
Did the Palace get to respond to the Harry & Meghan documentary?
Following the release of the first three episodes of Harry & Meghan, reports suggested that the Palace had not been contacted to provide a comment, despite a disclaimer at the start of episode one stating that the royals had been given the chance to respond.
It was later suggested by an insider source that Buckingham Palace reacted with caution when contacted by an unknown media company claiming to be involved in the series. According to The Mirror, an email was sent from the Sussexes to the Palace, requesting a response ahead of Harry & Meghan‘s release date. However, officials reportedly could not find an outright sign that the correspondence was actually sent from the royal couple for Harry & Meghan.
As for why the Palace reacted with such discretion, an insider told the Mail on Sunday that there was a lot of “caution” due to a previous royal communications blunder.
Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle always plan to create a documentary?
Netflix’s docu-series gave fans an insight into the Sussexes’ relationship from very early on, and we see snippets, screenshots, and videos from their first date to their many FaceTimes. We also see them recording the moments that lead up to and followed their decision to leave the UK, with one clip of Harry on board a plane, which he describes as a “freedom flight”.
Although there’s no suggestion from the pair that a documentary was always on the cards, one does wonder why the Sussexes recorded everything and anything.

How will royal relationships be left now?
Given the many, many bombshells that were dropped in the six-episode docu-series, fans of the monarchy will no doubt be wondering what the Royal Family thinks of the show – and how its contents will impact royal relationships going forward, although it’s no secret that these have been somewhat strained for a few years now.
At one point in the series, we see Harry receive a text from William after the Sussexes’ Oprah interview is aired. We don’t see the text itself, but Harry turns to his wife and admits: “I wish I knew what to do.” Since then, we’ve seen the pair interact briefly at the funerals of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, but whether they’ve spoken since then remains a mystery.
The Royal Family have so far remained tight-lipped about the contents of the Harry & Meghan documentary, declining to comment when approached by several news outlets. But, that’s not to say that the family haven’t spoken to each other behind closed doors – guess we’ll have to hope there’s a Harry & Meghan season two to find out…
