The 93rd Academy Awards are taking place soon and earlier this week, nominations for the awards were announced. It has been a good year to make history with Riz Ahmed being the first Muslim to receive a nomination for a leading role and Chloe Zhao being the first woman of colour to receive a nomination in the director category.

With movie theaters having shut their doors for most of the year, movies streamed on websites like Netflix are slowly clawing their way up and dominating the nominations list. Netflix garnered a whopping 35 nominations this year!
