I don’t know about you folks, but Netflix has been my saving grace during this pandemic. Almost 99% sure I would’ve gone stir crazy if it wasn’t for the new shows I found to pass the time and the even better releases of my all-time favourite shows. (I’m looking at you #3). So here’s a list of (mostly) tried and tested recent Netflix releases to indulge in when you need a break from life.

1. New Amsterdam

Despite premiering in 2018, this medical drama caught a bunch of traction after it was released on Netflix in February 2021. Based on the book, Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer, the show is full of personal drama, patient troubles and everything else you would expect to take place in one of the USA’s oldest public hospitals. If you’re a fan of Grey’s Anatomy much like myself, this is the perfect show to add to your watch list––I guarantee it!

2. Ginny & Georgia

You might’ve seen Ginny & Georgia in the news courtesy of a well-known pop star, but all pop culture drama aside––it’s so good. It’s definitely one of those guilty pleasure watches that you can’t get enough of or can’t stop binging until you finish the whole series, but that’s probably what makes it so good. Think Gilmore Girls but more current day, more dramatic and more urban. P.S. I’m obsessed with Georgia.

3. The Bold Type

I may be biased, but this is my favourite one on the list. The Bold Type is a glimpse into the life of three best friends (also the show’s frontrunners) who work at a female, fashion magazine in New York City-–talk about a dream life. But it’s not (only) the story of your typical journalist, but also of her equally talented BFFs, a fierce social media director and the most endearing fashion assistant. Every time I watch an episode, I feel inspired to do something like write a story or work on a 5-year plan! But hey, maybe it’s because that is *literally* my dream life.

4. Marriage or Mortgage

I have to say, this title intrigued me. After a little digging, it seems that it’s a reality TV show where a wedding planner and real estate agent go head to head to win the hearts (and $$$) of couples-to-be ahead of their wedding. Dream house or dream wedding? What would you pick? I, for one, have no freaking clue.

5. Nadiya Bakes

After winning The Great British Bake Off in 2015, Nadiya Hussain has been keeping busy. In Nadiya Bakes, she’s teaching us all her insider tips and tricks as she shares her recipes with a gleaming smile no less. From baking on a budget to baking to share, she’s got it all down. Nadiya’s positivity is contagious and her treats look *delicious* so really, what more could you ask for?

These are my top five recommendations for now, but maybe come back next month to see what else I have in store! Happy watching.
