Cosmo ME: Lets break down what’s the 2-Minute Rule all about?

Nastassia: The 2-Minute Rule is an easy productivity strategy popularized by David Allen in his book Getting Things Done. It works like this: if a task takes less than two minutes, do it immediately. If it takes longer, start by dedicating just two minutes to it. This approach helps you procrastinate less and complete tasks more efficiently. It’s also great for building new habits – like exercising, reading, or learning a new language – by making it easier to start.

Cosmo ME: How do we decide what tasks to tackle with the 2-Minute Rule?

Nastassia: As a lifestyle coach, I believe the way you apply the 2-Minute Rule is very personal since we all operate differently. For some, it works best for hobbies and household chores, while others find it most helpful for tackling work emails that sit unread for too long.

Cosmo ME: For a procrastination queen, how would you encourage them to give the Rule a shot?

Nastassia: Make it a challenge. Tell your partner or bestie about it, and make yourself accountable. Start immediately. Do it for a week as an experiment, but stick to it. If you want flexibility, pick one area to use the 2-Minute Rule like work, exercise, or house chores. The key is to take that first small step – because taking action keeps things moving.

Cosmo ME: Does this rule help people feel less overwhelmed in their daily lives?

Nastassia: It removes the pressure of being perfect and having everything ticked off within 24 hours. We usually get overwhelmed by the endless tasks at work and home, and on top of that, we tend to do things perfectly or not to do them at all. But in reality, we can all benefit from ‘better done than perfect’. Moving your body for just 2 minutes can make you feel better, taking out the rubbish makes your space cleaner, and a little dance to your favorite song can instantly boost your mood and leave you relaxed after.

Cosmo ME: What’s one thing you want people to remember about the 2-Minute Rule?

Nastassia: Better done than perfect. The 2-Minute Rule isn’t just about quick tasks – it’s about taking action, making mistakes, and learning from the experience. Small but consistent actions lead to big changes. Your life is happening now, don’t put it off until tomorrow.
