Dubai Expo 2020 is the World Expo that Dubai won the bid for back in 2013. There will be 192 countries participating and it will bring in millions of visitors from all around the world to the U.A.E. The theme for the Expo is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating The Future’ and will commence on October 20th 2020 and will finish 6 months later on April 10th 2021.
You can expect to see new tech innovations from space travel, to autonomous cars, to even daily entertainment exhibited. Visitors can expect to see 60 live shows per day from international artists, workshops to do and 200 restaurants to eat at with more than 50 different types of cuisine. (So exciting!)
Yesterday, Dubai and the rest of the U.A.E celebrated 365 days to go for the launch of Expo 2020. We are exactly 365 days away people! Can you believe it’s been 6 years since Dubai won the bid? 6 YEARS!
People from all over the country gathered to celebrate the big day with good food, amazing performances and Emirati hospitality at its finest.
Here’s an overview of what went down last night:
The Burj Khalifa became the countdown times that marked the time the expo will be launched in Dubai next year…October 20th and 8:20pm. The shadow of the tallest building in the world was packed with people celebrating and cheering for the country with ‘One Year To Go’ signs put up all over the venue. After the countdown, there were fireworks and celebrity performances.
Mariah Carey graced the stage in a dazzling gown by Dubai-based Furne One after the countdown and fireworks display. (Would it be a celebration if Dubai didn’t add fireworks?) “I’m so happy to be here and excited to be part of the one-year countdown of the Dubai Expo. I hope all of you will be there next year,” she said after her first song.
Then, Emirati Singer, Hussain Al Jassmi also performed with a massive applause from the crowd. The energy was amazing at the venue. He had a 20 minute performance and his fans sang every word, danced to every song and took videos like it was running out of fashion.
Apart from Dubai, the Burj Khalifa and the amazing performance were live streamed at Louvre Abu Dhabi, Al Majaz Waterfront in Sharjah, Ajman Museum, Umm Al Quwain Corniche, Al Qawasim Corniche in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah Fort.
Celebrations and activities started at 5pm across all cities with tanoura dancers, stilt walkers and artists for visitors to enjoy. There was also some really yummy food stalls with different cuisines and great entertainment for children. Everyone got to meet the Expo Mascots for the first time!
The U.A.E went above and beyond to celebrate the countdown to the Expo and it was a big success!
