When it comes to the holy month of Ramadan, self-care is an act that most of us overlook and leave until last, in between our iftar invites, daily prayers and cute Ramadan pop-up trips.

But we know *all too well* that our skin can really suffer when we maybe aren’t as hydrated as we should be.

Having dull, lacklustre skin is most girls’ arch nemesis. With a whole load of overwhelming info out there, wouldn’t it be nice if we could just find all the Ramadan essential skincare tips all in one place?

Well, bonjour, you’re in the right place because here’s Cosmo ME’s list of pharmacist-approved Ramadan skin hacks.

Tip number 1: Look out for these ingredients

If your skin is feeling and looking drier than usual, you’re not alone sweetie. You need to think about layering ingredients with benefits for replenishing lost moisture. Your skin BFF’s are hyaluronic acid, peptides and ceramides if your skincare goals are bouncy, juicy skin. I love a simple hyaluronic acid like this one from The Ordinary that actually works.

This way for plump skin.

Tip number 2: Post-wudhu skin care

Nobody talks about this, but after wudhu (the washing ritual before praying), you don’t need to apply every step in your skincare again, but it’s a good idea to apply your moisturiser to lock in that moisture and keep your skin barrier protected. Moisturising at least twice a day (morning and evening) is an absolute must! Try this one from Minimalist formulated with Vitamin B5, especially good for oily or combination skin.

Tip number 3: Hydrate, hydrate hydrate

Girls, you need to stay hydrated (caffeine doesn’t count btw) between iftar and suhoor, because dehydration is apparent in your complexion! Hydrate the body from the inside out and aim for 2 litres per day.

Tip number 4: Collagen

To help you drink more water, how about adding some collagen powder to your Stanley cup, or some collagen liquid like these cute sachets from Revive Collagen, which you can throw into your handbag ready for your post-iftar coffee run.

Tip number 5: Overnight masks

If your skin is suffering during these weeks, with long nights and early mornings leading to disturbed sleep, then dw we’ve got a solulu for you. While you are sleeping, look for a good overnight mask that works its magic while you get that shut eye.

PS this Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask is a personal fave and has saved my skin more times than I can count.

Wake up to good skin here.

Tip number 6: Look after your lips

I’m sure I’m not the only one with dry lips this season. Overnight lip masks are unreal, like this berry flavoured one from Laneige, containing antioxidants and Shea butter for ultimate hydration. Don’t sleep on this, sleep with this on. 😉

Tip number 7: Get your beauty sleep

With so many events happening and FOMO a very real feeling when that invite for a late night matcha run arrives, our sleep schedule tends to slip a little. “Sleep is for the weak” kinda vibe. But I’m gonna tell you some home truths. Lack of sleep leads to tired skin that nobody wants to show off on Eid. Aim for that sweet spot which is somewhere between 6-8 hours per night.

Tip number 8: Nourish your body

When the plates of luqaimat, syrupy knafeh and baklava are staring at us in the face at iftar time, it’s too hard to resist. Trust me, I’ve been there. Try to reach for antioxidant-rich foods for dessert, like berries and nuts, which are sources of vitamins and minerals that have SO many benefits for the skin, like reducing the appearance of wrinkles and stimulating the production of collagen. The occasional serving of a sweet treat goes without saying though.

Don’t skip your sun protection, even when you’re indoors. 👀
