How do we know this fact? Well according to an analysis by your friendly gaming neighbour expert, Cases.gg, not all gaming consoles have the efficiency you need as a gamer.
The study measured a list of both the cheapest and most expensive gaming consoles in 2025. From the power usage of a day of gaming (in 24 hours obvi), alongside a two-hour gaming session, an hour streaming (Twitch or otherwise), four hours in sleep mode and 17 hours shutdown mode.
Doing the girl math for you, they calculated the costs of the energy being used (girlies in STEM ate this one). Below you’ll find the most energy-efficient gaming consoles you need to buy in 2025.

Nintendo Switch OLED

We love the Switch series here. Its compact and versatile structure is exactly what every Game Boy user back in the early 00s was looking for. Released back in 2021, the OLED Switch won the title as the *most* cost-effective and energy-efficient gaming console of 2025. The Switch literally only uses 10,037.5 watt-hours annually which is roughly Dhs11.27 a year in total.
The Nintendo Switch

Taking second place is the Nintendo Switch. Originally released in 2017, this gaming console uses 11,132.5 watt-hours annually and costs just Dhs12.50 per year. For the girlies on a budget, this is the perfect console that’ll fr level your gaming.
Microsoft Xbox One S

Xbox girlies you can breathe. If you have the Microsoft Xbox One S, you’re just in luck because according to Cases.gg, this ranks third in the whole list. This gaming console consumes 76,467.5 watt-hours per year which roughly totals Dhs85.81 as the yearly running cost. Despite its higher energy use, the 2016 model remains a classic to this day.
Microsoft Xbox Series S

Taking fourth place in the list is Microsoft Xbox Series S. The console requires much more energy compared to the Xbox One S. Roughly consuming 76,467.5 watt-hours per year, the Series S, known for its compact yet powerful performance while gaming, costs a total of Dhs91.22 to use each year.
Sony PlayStation4

Of course, if you’re a Play Station girlie, the SonyStaion 4 still packs a punch for those who are avid gamers looking for the best graphics. However, it does consume much more than the others. The poular gaming console costs Dhs93.51 to use per year, just Dhs2.29 more than the Xbox Series S. It consumes a total of 83,329.5 watt-hours annually.
Sony PlayStation 4 Pro

Ranking sixth in energy efficiency, the Sony PlayStation 4 Pro takes a total of 137,422.5 watt-hours annually, which runs a cost of Dhs154.18 per year. That’s 64.9 per cent more energy used tha the typical PlayStation 4. But, from all the consoles in the list, it takes the least amount of pwoer in shut-down mode: just 0.2 watts.
Microsoft Xbox Series X

According to Cases.gg, the Microsoft Xbox Series X is the least cost-effective gaming console in the list. It takes 150,927.5 watt-hours annually, with a yearly cost of Dhs169.34. Compared too all the consoles in the Xbox lineup, it takes the most energy. It also uses the mosst energy at 13 watts while in sleep mode.
Sony PlayStation 5

Now, don’t cry just yet if you have the Sony PlayStation 5. Ranking eighth in the whole list, the Sony PlayStation 5 consumes a whopping consuming 182,120.4 watt-hours annually, with a yearly running cost of Dhs204.19. This in total takes 118.5 per cent more than the Playstation 4 (its double bestie). But it is understandable why. According to the Sony brains the PlayStation 5 includes a custom hardware for machine learning and an AI Library that provides super sharp image clarity.
