Uhm, something’s brewin’ in your FYP, and no, it’s to the typical ads.
Last year, we heard news of a potential switch-up with the viral platform, TikTok. And it seems now there’s an imminent big change inching closer for the 2.05 billion users.
With an official date set in stone for TikTok’s closure in the US on January 19, 2025, the infamous lifestyle and community app has been subtly launching its sister app: Lemon8.
Because of the impending closure, TikTok has been promoting the new app for users to switch.
According to TikTok users, many have been receiving notifications that Lemon8 would be powered by TikTok, urging them to download it, like ASAP. So much so, that the app upsurged in downloads on the Apple App Store and now has over 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store — that says a lot.
Below, Cosmo ME gives you a rundown of everything you need to know about the Lemon8 app.
What is Lemon8?
Lemon8 is a community app powered by TikTok that launched in early 2020 initially in Japan and later launched in the US in early 2023.
It is a go-between Pinterest and Instagram, which follows a similar design to TikTok, safe to say it’s definitely following what we’re used to on the TikTok app.
The sister app is also part of the parent company that manages TikTok, ByteDance.
How will Lemon8 work?
The Lemon8 functions quite similarly to TikTok, It showcases a myriad of content available from fashion, beauty, food, home, wellness and others. The only difference between Lemon 8 and TikTok (more video-focused), is that you can edit as well as share photos and collages, making it more photo-content focused.
Will Lemon8 get banned too?
Many are speculating about its potential closure as well because of its ties to ByteDance, though there is no clear answer.
Can you download Lemon8 in the UAE?
Currently, the Lemon8 app is not available in the region.
Btw, these Pinterest trends are dominating 2025.
