There’s only one thing preventing the french fry from being the world’s most perfect food: the fact that it tastes like absolute trash after going from hot to room temp. But before you EGREGIOUSLY throw it or other sad, mushy foods out, read this advice from Olivia Mack McCool, author of Lunch!. Then do what she says.

Mac and cheese

In a small stovetop pot, add a splash of milk and a little butter to your leftover mac. Set the heat to medium-low and stir until the dish has been revived to its formerly gooey self.

Dumplings

Heat a bit of oil in a skillet on medium heat. Drop-in your dumps, then cover. Cook for up to 5 minutes, until they’re crispy outside and warm inside (just like your soul).

Pizza

Wrap your slice in foil, put it on a metal sheet tray, and place it in an oven that’s been preheated to 350 degrees. Patiently wait for 5 to 10 minutes (sorryyy).

Chicken tenders

A gloriously hot oven is your friend here. Turn her up to 425 degrees. Lay your tendies out on a baking sheet and throw ’em in for10 to 12 minutes. Don’t burn your tongue, k?

Fries

Place an empty baking sheet inside your oven and preheat to 425 degrees. Once it hits that temp, spread out your fries onto the (now v hot!!) sheet. Bake for 5 to 10 minutes, until they’re crisped to your liking. Top with salt and die happy.

Ramen

Dump everything in a saucepan over low heat, and add a splash of water or a dash of soy sauce to rehydrate your zombie takeout. Once it’s steamy, you’re ready to slurp obnoxiously!

Nachos

Set your oven to broil and place the top rack as close to the heat as possible. Pop your nachos on a foil-lined baking sheet, top with fresh cheese, and slide it in. For the love of margs, keep an eye on those precious angels so they don’t burn, then nom once the cheese is melty.
