Wicked, part 1 – the highly anticipated live-action movie musical adaptation of the renowned Broadway musical Wicked (adapted from a Gregory Maguire novel) will land in UAE cinemas soon.
We’ve *seriously* been counting down the seconds until musical legends and iconic actors Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo mesmerise us with their impeccable acting chops and exquisite vocals on the big screen. We’re on cloud 9 – so you could technically that we’re ~defying gravity~ (IYKYK).

What is the new Wicked, part 1 movie about?
Based on the homonymous Broadway musical, Wicked follows the story of Elphaba and Glinda – two opposing witches in the magical land of Oz – between whom an unlikely friendship forms. When Elphaba sets out on a mission to expose the fraudulent lies and corrupt ways of the Wizard of Oz (who rules the land of Oz), she is wrongfully cast as a wicked witch.
Thus, a bond is formed between Glinda (the Good Witch of the North) and Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) – as the two witches navigate the land of Oz together.
Who’s in the new Wicked, part 1 movie cast?
Everybody and their mother knows that Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Ethan Slater are part of the Wicked, part 1 cast. Ariana Grande plays the role of Glinda (the Good Witch of the North), Cynthia Erivo plays the role of Elphaba (the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West) and Ethan Slater plays the role of Boq.
Additional cast members include Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Miss Coddle as Keala Settle, among other spectacular cast members.
Fun fact: Ariana Grande was always fated to play the role of Glinda – having literally tweeted “Loved seeing Wicked again… amazing production! Made me realise again how badly I want 2 play Glinda at some point in my life! #DreamRole” back in 2011. Can you say, ~manifestation queen~?
When will Wicked, part 1 be released in the UAE?
Filming took place in England in late 2022, before being put on pause due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. It eventually resumed and concluded in January 2024. The sequel, Wicked, part 2, will be released in 2025.
Wicked, part 1 is coming to UAE cinemas on November 21, 2024.
