Did you know that a woman’s bra size can change within a month? We didn’t either. Although, now when we think about it, we realise it makes total sense. We learned this bosom of wisdom along with a treasure trove of bra shopping tips from Amy Joseph, the Business Head of Lingerie at Liwa Trading Enterprises. You know all the cute bras, panties, and loungewear we buy from La Senza? You can thank Amy for that. #Queen
It’s all about the ~proper~fit
Just like proper skincare is the base to a flawless makeup beat, the “right lingerie is the foundation to your outfit.” Fit and size are *so* important when bra shopping and that’s why your best bet is to get professionally measured.
“Don’t get attached to your bra size because it can change based on the style of bra you want to go for and even for the outfit you want to wear the bra under. The number or cup size is not important. If you’re bra shopping online, use the measurement guide associated with the bra you intend to purchase and measure yourself at home.”

“Due to hormones, breast size can change even within a month.” (Hello, water retention). Yet another reason to be flexible with your sizing when bra shopping. (Supplied)
Different sizes
Eyebrows, eyeliner wings, and breasts too, are sisters. Not twins. If your golden globes come in two different sizes, you can use the right accessories to get them vibing on the same level.
If one breast is smaller than the other, pick up the Chicken Fillets (Dhs109, thefashionnet.ae) next time you’re bra shopping. Put the fillet in the cup of the smaller breast. This will give the appearance of both breasts being equally sized. Wearing a padded bra? Simply remove the padding in the cup with the larger-sized breast. Genius!
Look for the clues
Have you ever noticed the strap of your bra riding up your back or a roll of fat on your back being highlighted through your shirt thanks to your bra? If you’re experiencing either of these completely unnecessary annoyances, then “you need to get a bra that’s at least one size bigger to get a flatter appearance on your back.” Also, your bra cups should *never ever* dig into your breasts. “Constantly having to adjust? Size up.”
Express yourself
After the last couple of years, why ~not~ celebrate yourself every day. After all, “lingerie is a wonderful form of self-expression.” Ask yourself, are you feeling more like a Maddy or a Cassie? It’s all about “choosing the style that does it for you. This is a guilt-free pleasure.” Imagine the “silhouette you envision yourself having” and get the pieces that, quite literally, embody it. “If you’re a monochrome type of girl, opt for colourful bras the next time you go bra shopping and vice versa. The key is to enjoy and have fun with it.”

Underwire poking your breasts? Getting the “four breast” effect from too small cups? Those are both telltale signs that you’re rocking the wrong bra size. (Supplied)
There are ~no~ rules
“If you like something, try it. When it comes to lingerie there are no rules.” If you got used to going bra-less during the pandemic, chances are your second guessing going back to tight and restrictive undergarments. Looking for comfort? You’re not the only one. “Try the Ambra Long Line Rib Padded Bra (Dhs149, thefashionnet.ae) made of soft organic cotton the next time you go bra shopping.”
