Six months of Expo 2020 being on our camera roll and we’re not ready to let go of it just yet. Whether you’ve got a soft spot for a pavilion or just missing all the late-night concerts, it’s been home to us for so long and luckily, it’s here to stay (for the most part.)

So, what will happen to Expo 2020?

Expo 2020 will now be redefined as a new smart city called District 2020, to further echo Expo’s sustainable initiative.

“District 2020 will evolve from Expo 2020 Dubai as a smart and sustainable city centred on the needs of its urban community,” read its official website. “It will provide a curated innovation-driven business ecosystem that brings together global minds and embraces technology and digital innovation to support industry growth..”

Now, a little bit of a downside: Some pavilions will be demolished, repurposing 80% of Expo’s build to unveil the new city.

What Expo 2020 spots are going to stay?

IK we can’t *wait* for District 2020 to happen soon so we can go back and check them out again. So, apparently, the country pavilions that are staying are the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and India alongside the Mobility Pavilion (Alif), Vision Pavilion, Mission Possible, and Dubai Exhibition Centre. Some pavilions like the Sustainability Pavilion (Terra) will be revamped into a Children and Science Centre.

But, if you’re crossing your fingers and hoping the Surreal and Al Wasl Plaza are here to stay then we’re going to say *inhales sharply* that it will be making the cut.

What does District 2020 have for us?

District 2020 will be welcoming 85 new startups and small businesses before the new year, 800 residential spots by Q1 next year, and 2,300 apartments scheduled to be launched too. We’ll just be here patiently waiting on buying our first home here.
