Ever since we collectively decided we were done dressing like everyone else and started embracing a little more magic and whimsy within us, the world has become a much better place. Our former cover star, Narin’s Beauty, just reminded us of exactly that in her latest Instagram post.

The creator took her followers behind the scenes as she crocheted the perfect little pastel mint-green set, complete with the cutest, daintiest charms dangling from the miniskirt.

In the Instagram Reel that has now racked up more than 16 million views, Narin shared how she’s teaching herself how to crochet, all while referencing Zara Larsson’s ‘Midnight Sun‘ music video.

“I wanted to learn a new hobby, so I’m excited to give every person I love a piece I made with my own hand,” she wrote in the caption.

True to her word, she gifted the handcrafted set to her sister Sherin, proving that handmade gifts for your loved ones are practically unbeatable.

Whimsy is here to stay

If you’ve also found yourself getting tired of the nonchalant, effortless looks, you’re definitely not alone. Gen Z has officially decided that caring is cool, drama is cool, and expressing yourself through fashion is definitely the way to go. Be it lace peeking through your basics, chunky bracelets, or over-the-top hair accessories, the whimsical shift has space for it all.

Maybe that’s why whimsy feels so nostalgic. It’s giving our artistic sides, which have been suppressed for so long, their moment to shine again.

Growing up in the 2000s meant that we were constantly surrounded by colour and strong personalities. Whether it was the hot pink Barbie Dreamhouses or our favourite Winx Club characters, one thing they all had in common was that they were unapologetically themselves. If we are being completely honest, we’ve all dreamt of having bright purple hair and wearing neon pink lip glosses to match our shimmery sequined tops.

The whimsy era is allowing everyone to break free. It encourages us to appreciate nostalgia and the story behind handcrafted pieces. The Middle East has also embraced the whimsy takeover, with Arab brands and creators reminding us that making your outfit your own is the best way to feel like yourself.
