DL1961’s production process: From trash to treasure
For DL1961, committing to social responsibility means going so far as to turn ~literal~ trash into exquisite jeans. Indeed, using a blend of certified and organic cotton and recycled cotton, DL1961 begins its production process by sourcing discarded clothing from landfills around the world. This post-consumer waste is broken down to the fiber and woven into new yarn. The fashion pioneer then interweaves the resulting yarn with eco-friendly fibers, creating jeans that are sustainable to their core.

Cosmo ME: When it comes to shopping for jeans, how often do you find the perfect fit for your body type?
Sara Al Humiri: I have a curvier body type so it is a struggle to find a pair of jeans that have the perfect fit for me. Thankfully, DL1961’s website has got a whole guide for women’s fit so it makes my life easier, especially when I’m opting to shop online.
Cosmo ME: Apart from the fit, what are the most important qualities to look out for when shopping for a pair of jeans? How does DL1961 embody those qualities?
Sara Al Humiri: Longevity and comfort. DL1961 creates their jeans sustainably so that they’re intended to be worn more and washed less. This’ll help me keep the colour of my jeans the same, and the brand encourages buyers to mend their jeans throughout their journey to keep their life going.
Cosmo ME: How would you layer a denim look from DL1961? Would you go for a denim-on-denim style, or would you pair your jeans with an airy, loose top?
Sara Al Humiri: I prefer jeeping it casual and since we live in UAE heat, I would pair my denim from DL1961 with an airy, loose top.
