The Barbie momentum is alive and well in our beloved Gulf countries. Just last week, we received the ~exquisite~ news that the pinktastic blockbuster would release across UAE cinemas on August 10 – and trust us, we bought our tickets faster than Charlie XCX sang her Barbie anthem, Speed Drive.

Barbie’s release in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain…

The news was announced via Instagram by the film’s very own production company, Warner Bros (Middle East). We never thought the film would see the light of day in the UAE, let alone in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Indeed, between the postponements and rumours of a full-on ban à la Spiderman, we were getting ready to bid Barbie the movie farewell before even getting the chance to watch it in theatres.

But Arab girlies beyond the Gulf are questioning whether or not the movie is set for release in countries like Kuwait and Lebanon. “Kuwait has entered the chat,” writes one commenter, whilst another exclaims, “WE WANT IT IN LEBANON.”

So, although girlies in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain can collectively rejoice in theatres on August 10, we cannot help but feel for so many of our fantastic sisters across the Arab world who long for a life in plastic that is yet to be confirmed.

But do not despair- considering that the Media Regulatory Bodies of three conservative Gulf countries have approved the screening of Barbie within their territories, we can safely assume that the same lenient reasoning shall apply in the remaining Arab countries.

Feel free to purchase your tickets to Barbie in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. It’s show time.
