A girl's gotta grieve and our ‘Troubles of the Heart’ playlist will coach you through this delicate time in your life.

We're going to start off a playlist that features some somber ballads for you to belt out in the shower and let you get it all out of your system. Then, we'll move on to tracks that are a bit more chill and pensive before moving on to fierce girlpower anthems that should remind you of the strong independent woman you are and, how you don’t need no man to be happy, anyway. Mmhmm.

Sound good? Good.

Let the recovery commence!

Stage 1: Emergency

1. "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Prince

Let the late legend, Prince, truly describe that vulnerable feeling you have after just coming out of a relationship and having to be alone for the first time, in a long time. Yeah, you can "eat your dinner in a fancy restaurant", but that won't make all the hurt go away. Sing it, Prince.

2. "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston

This classic tear-jerker can melt even the coldest of hearts. Whitney belts out the sad truth that sometimes, no matter how much love two people have for each other, the relationship just doesn't work out. It takes a lot of strength to acknowledge that something isn't working and walk away with dignity and respect.

3. "All Too Well" by Taylor Swift

In this pop melody, Taylor reminisces over a lost love and how it can be hard to get over a breakup, when your mind is constantly replaying all the bittersweet memories in your head.

Stage 2: Intensive Care

4. "Too Good" by Drake ft. Rihanna

This catchy track by Drake and our home girl RiRi describes a relationship where there's only take and no give. A relationship is a two-way street, everyone knows that. You need to realise your self-worth and never let anyone take you for granted. Sometimes, all you need to do is take a step back and recognise that you're far too good for the other person.

5. "Burn" by Usher

Usher takes the high road in this R&B track, which explains how it's better for him to part ways with his partner before things get too serious and messy. This track is all about conflicted feelings and how it can be very hard in a relationship to be the first one to admit that it isn't working for you anymore.

6. "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" by John Mayer

John Mayer's highly emotional lyrics and passionate guitar solo truly capture the heartache of a dying relationship. The burning room being the chaos and destruction that is the current state of the couple and the slow dancing being a symbol of how, although they care for one and other deeply, the ultimate result will be the collapse of their relationship. It's heavy, very heavy.

Stage 3: The Comeback

7. "Irreplaceable" by Beyoncé

Heartbroken or not, Queen Bey's massive hit had us all singing "To the left" when it came out in 2006. Trust Bey to come out with a power song to evoke our inner divas and remind us that we're worth more than a silly breakup. This track will have you bopping along and forgetting all about what's-his-name.

8. "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor

This anthem is the song that every woman has on her lips when a man thinks he's too good for her. It's a common misperception that we all have at the end of a relationship; thinking we won't be able to live without the other person, but that's all it is. A misperception. We, women, are survivors and, we do not "crumble" and "die" when a relationship ends.

9. "Bulletproof" by La Roux

This synth-pop tune, courtesy of La Roux, is the perfect song for when you're tired of the tears and ready to power through. This time around you're going to be a changed woman and you're not going to let this breakup define you. You're going to be "bulletproof".

10. "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson

"But since you've been gone,
I can breathe for the first time,
I'm so moving on"

'nuff said.

Stay strong ladies! And, you remember: you're a strong, independent women, who's capable of anything and everything. Peace!
