Cosmo ME: You moved from YouTube covers to creating your own music. Describe your journey in two words.

Noel Kharman: Harmonious and self-discovery.

Cosmo ME: When did you start working on your EP? What was the message you wanted to spread?

Noel Kharman: I started working on my EP when I first moved to Jordan in the year 2020. My first EP was like a journey of discovery. I wanted to share parts of my life, feelings, and things I’ve been through. I also got a lot of inspiration from my family and being away from them. Making this EP helped me figure out what I really want to say in my future projects.

When it comes to music, I wanted to showcase the sounds of Arabic instruments, melodies, and scales that represent my culture.

Cosmo ME: The name of it is My Diary. Do you think your fans actually know you? How would you describe yourself?

Noel Kharman: I chose to title it My Diary because I felt it encapsulated the essence of sharing personal narratives and facets of my life that are typically reserved for my private journal rather than shared openly.

For instance, recounting the tale of Ann Al Awan, a deeply personal and challenging experience, was a significant stride in sharing more openly. However, it’s important to note that there are still numerous aspects of my journey, struggles, experiences, and lessons that remain undisclosed to the public.

Cosmo ME: Some of the songs from your EP are about difficulties in relationships. What did you learn about love so far?

Noel Kharman: In the past, I faced heartbreak and vulnerability. Now, when I reflect on those experiences, I’m thankful they unfolded as they did. They’ve played a significant role in shaping my current self and building my confidence. Moreover, they’ve clarified the qualities I value in a partner.

While love is important, it isn’t the sole foundation of a relationship. Elements like equality, trust, respect, shared vision, the ability to work together, transparency, and effective communication all hold equal importance in a successful relationship.

Cosmo ME: Ann Al Awan is a tribute to the loss of your father. What are some of your favourite memories of him?

Noel Kharman: I don’t have many memories of my dad, which is unfortunate. I was quite young when he passed away, so it’s as if my recollections of life only started after his passing. My understanding of him mainly comes from my mom’s accounts and the stories shared by people who knew him, but beyond that, there’s not much I remember.

Cosmo ME: Which song is your favourite from the EP and why?

Noel Kharman: For me, Ann Al Awan and Mamnounlak hold a special place. Ann Al Awan is deeply personal and moving, and I’m drawn to its musical elements. The time spent creating it in the studio and filming the music video left me incredibly fulfilled. It was a heartfelt experience, and I’ve always wanted to create something for my mom as a gesture of respect and love.

As for Mamnounlak, I’m enamoured with its lyrics, melody, and production. This song pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I embraced it wholeheartedly, even though it revolves around a breakup. To me, it’s more about empowerment in the aftermath, resonating with everyone and bolstering their confidence, including my own.

Cosmo ME: Where did you film Wayyak music video? What was your fave scene and why?

Noel Kharman: We shot the music video for Wayyak in a Jordanian city named Salt, at a stunning location known as The French Mansion.

Among all the scenes, my top pick has to be the one in the pool. It’s visually captivating with the soothing blue tones, the Arabic touches, and a cup of tea. I’m drawn to contrasts and unexpected combinations, like sipping tea in the pool. It might sound odd, but the blend feels oddly satisfying and appealing to me.

Cosmo ME: What are some staple fashion pieces you can’t leave the house without?

Noel Kharman: I’m someone who always includes accessories in my look. Currently, I’m really into my Naked Wolfe chunky boots. I wear them often. I also have a generously sized handbag that’s perfect for carrying everything I need.

Cosmo ME: Congrats on the Kids’ Choice Awards nomination! What are other milestones you’re looking forward to in the year?

Noel Kharman: I’m eagerly looking forward to my next EP, pouring creativity and excitement into its creation. Additionally, I’m really enthusiastic about embarking on an extensive tour, where I can visit many places, meet fans from around the world, and connect with them. Mainly, I am very excited about sharing my new music and visuals with my audience.

Cosmo ME: What do you think it will take for Arab music to garner global popularity and appreciation?

Noel Kharman: I sense a dynamic evolution and global expansion underway, driven by the recent surge of new music artists in the industry. The collaboration of remarkable artists from the MENA region, seamlessly blending Western and Eastern sounds and languages, has facilitated a captivating bridge between these cultures.

With the right approach, Arabic music holds immense potential to achieve international recognition. I firmly believe that Arabic music is on the cusp of becoming a global phenomenon in the near future.
