Last night, we saw experienced glitz and glam from the crémé de la crémé of Hollywood. They came, posed and conquered the red carpet. However, the queen of red carpet, a.k.a. Natalie Portman, stood out as she made a bold fashion statement at this year’s Academy Awards.

Last night, she used her black and gold Dior Haute Couture embroided dress, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri to make a statement about the undiversified state of Hollywood and we’re SO here for it. Along the hem of her cape, Natalie engraved the names of the female directors – Lulu Wang, Lorene Scafaria, Greta Gerwig, Marielle Heller, Melina Matsoukas, Alma Har’el, Mati Diop and Céline Sciamma – that were snubbed by the Academy.

In the video, you can hear Natalie saying, “I wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in my subtle way.” She’s known for making statements about how male domintaed the Academy is, in 2018 when she presented the Best Director category, she said “And here are the all-male nominees.”
