After 6 long weeks of testimonies, evidence, and more, the verdict for the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation case was announced yesterday evening at 3 pm, EST. The jury found Amber Heard guilty on all three counts of defamation in her Washington Post op-ed, titled “I spoke up against sexual violence,” giving Johnny Depp $15 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

Johnny Depp and his former lawyer, Adam Waldman, were also found guilty on one count of action in the counterclaim Amber Heard raised against him, awarding her $2 million in compensatory damages.

This came as a shock to Amber’s team, with looks of disappointment and sadness, as they announced the verdict. The Aquaman star then took to Instagram and Twitter to share her disappointment regarding the Jury’s verdicts, saying “I’m sad I lost this case. But I am sadder that still I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American- to speak freely and openly.”

Meanwhile, Johnny Depp’s team shared group hugs and sighs of relief in court. Even though the Pirates of the Caribbean star himself was nowhere to be seen in court, he was spotted in a pub in Newcastle celebrating with pal Sam Fender.

Besides the celebration and excitement, Johnny Depp also released a statement via Instagram. He expressed that “the best has yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun.”
