Lets state the obvious. This is NOT what dreams are made of.Â
33-year-old actress Hilary Duff revealed last night that the long-anticipated Lizzie McGuire reboot will not be happening anymore. It was announced in August 2019 (to all of our excitement) that Lizzie McGuire is making a comeback, and it would chronicle the life of 30 year old Lizzie. However, there were some disagreements between Disney+ and Hilary as they wanted make the show a “PG rating.”Â
Earlier this year Hilary spoke out about her dissatisfaction with Disney+ saying “it’s important that just as her experiences as a pre-teen/teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable.” And the show was even put on hold due to creative differences after the original creator Terri Minsky left after filming only two episodes.Â
It seems that now the series has been officially dropped by Disney, and can’t be moved to Hulu.Â
In a lengthy IG post Hilary wrote “I’ve been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me. I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work but, sadly & despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen, to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves.
We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her. I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align.” The star ended her note with a nod to the iconic “What Dreams Are Made Of” song from The Lizzie McGuire Movie. “Hey now, this is what 2020s made of.”
BRB, crying.Â
