Despite Hilary Duff taking to Instagram several times last year to share behind-the-scene snaps from the Lizzie Mcguire reboot, Variety has reported that the new series has been put on hold.
“Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series,” explains a Disney spokesperson. “After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”
Terri Minsky, the original series creator, has stepped down from the series as a result.
Sources told Variety that the streaming service “felt many issues explored on the show Love, Simon, including alcohol use and sexual exploration, would not fit in with the family-friendly content on Disney Plus.”
Hilary took to Instastory to show a bit of shade at the show, likening the Lizzie Mcguire sitation to Love, Simon being put on hold for not being “family friendly” enough.

The new series was set to follow McGuire as a 30-year-old navigating her life in Manhattan. Many of the original cast were returning, including Jake Thomas as her brother Matt, Hallie Todd as her mum Jo and Robert Carradine as dad Sam, as well as Adam Lamberg as sidekick Gordo.
