So, it looks as though Kanye West (as well as publicly criticising his wife Kim Kardashian-West) is now trying to call out singer Billie Eilish online, from whom he has demanded an apology. The rapper also posted on Instagram that he wouldn’t be performing at Coachella unless Billie says sorry.
Why? Recently Billie stopped mid-performance after she noticed a fan in the crowd was struggling and in need of their inhaler. A news outlet later ran the story with the headline ‘Billie Eilish dissed Travis Scott at her concert after she stopped the show to give her fan an inhaler!’ accompanied by an alleged quote from Billie: “I wait for people to be okay before I keep going”.
Upon seeing the story, Kanye (as you would, with a headline like that tbf) presumed that Billie was either making reference to, or taking direct aim at, his brother-in-law (ish?) Travis Scott after the recent Astroworld tragedy, which saw ten people die in a crush during his show. A further 300 people were treated for injuries, such as cuts and bruises.
Posting a screenshot of the article on his Instagram, Kanye added the caption: “COME ON BILLIE WE LOVE YOU PLEASE APOLOGIZE TO TRAV AND TO THE FAMILIES OF THE PEOPLE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES NO ONE INTENDED THIS TO HAPPEN TRAV DIDN’T HAVE ANY IDEA OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING WHEN HE WAS ON STAGE AND WAS VERY HURT BY WHAT HAPPENED AND YES TRAV WILL BE WITH ME AT COACHELLA BUT NOW I NEED BILLIE TO APOLOGIZE BEFORE I PERFORM”.
Now, in response to Kanye’s public call-out, screenshots of Billie replying – and denying – that her comments about waiting for a fan during her performance were in relation to Travis or Astroworld at all are circulating.
“Literally never said a thing about Travis. Was just helping a fan,” she wrote under the post [which is currently still live at the time of publication – 12 February 2022 at 9.25am].
At this point, Kanye hasn’t replied to Billie’s comment (at least not in a public forum), but they’re both set to headline Coachella in April. Here’s hoping everything will be cleared up before then.
