If there is one good thing about 2020, it’s that your favourite Disney kid-turned-mega-starlet—Miley Ray Cyrus, who else?—is doing things again! Last year, Miley blessed our ears with the release of her EP, She Is Coming, leading us all to believe we’d get a full album before this year ends. Jury’s still out on that one, but hey—at least Miley’s been keeping us fed by dropping her newest single, “Midnight Sky,” giving equal parts hilarious and savage interviews about her love life, and most importantly, supplying fans with intel about her upcoming seventh studio album, She Is Miley Cyrus.

Since you’re likely (1) a Smiler who needs Miley updates at all costs and (2) itching for more music from Miley because you’re also (3) impatient for a high quality pop album to enter your life, continue reading to find out everything we dug up about Miley’s album. You’re welcome!

WHAT’S THE ALBUM GOING TO SOUND LIKE?

Miley’s already given fans a bunch of juicy details about the album’s ~vibe~. Back in March, Miley did an interview with DJ Smallzy and revealed fans should expect “Joan Jett vibes,” meaning we’re in for some pure rock n’ roll on this record. Miley also elaborated and said,“if 2019 was for the [heart]break, 2020 is for the [heart]breakers.”

During her appearance on The Zach Sang Show this past August, Miley explained that taking a rock direction for She Is Miley Cyrus wasn’t the original plan. She said:

“I actually used making this record as a threat to my team at one point. Like after the last record I was like listen, I’m gonna try pop one more time and if i feel like I just can’t sleep at night with it, I’m gonna make a rock record and they were like “Well, then why are you waiting, you never wait, just do it,” and so I was like, “You’re right. I don’t know, I don’t know why I’m like threatening you with a record that feels like the right next step to me.” I just thought again, you know, I should just kind of keep trying going with pop and go with what I know, but that’s not who I am, so again, I just went and started making a rock record.”

WHO IS MILEY WORKING WITH ON THIS ALBUM?

Miley’s teamed up with a host of producers for She Is Miley Cyrus. So far we have:

Mark Ronson

On Twitter, a Miley update account said Mark produced a Miley song called “High.” Mark replied to the tweet and wrote, “this song will make you call every ex you’ve ever had. Miley’s vocals is 11/10.”

Miley and Mark previously joined forces for the bop that is “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart,” which is SO good that Cosmo named it one of Miley’s 25 best songs ever.

Mark is also known for his work on “Rehab” by Amy Winehouse, “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, “Cold Shoulder” by Adele, “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars, and many others. So yeah, basically anything Mark touches turns to gold.

Max Martin

You might not know Max Martin by name, but he is a pop music LEGEND. Max’s career in songwriting and producing gained traction in the ’90s after he wrote Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time,” “It’s Gonna Be Me,” and the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way.”

Since then, Max has co-written songs like “God Is a Woman” by Ariana Grande, “Beauty and a Beat” by Justin Bieber feat. Nicki Minaj, “4ever” by The Veronicas, “Love Me Like You Do,” by Ellie Goulding, “Stupid Love” by Lady Gaga, “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd, “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, “What the Hell” by Avril Lavigne, “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry…alright, I’ll stop now. Oh, and he’s won the esteemed ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award eleven (11) times!! Casual!

Andrew Watt

Andrew’s another name you probably don’t know. In 2013, he was the founding member and guitar player of the band California Breed. Two years later, Andrew pursued a solo music career, and these days, he goes by “watt.”

Since then, he’s dabbled quite a bit in songwriting and producing records for artists like Post Malone, Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa and more. We’ve already got a taste of what he’s capable of because he’s credited as one of the writers on “Midnight Sky.”

Andrew Wyatt

‘Kay, I promise this Andrew is different from the above Andrew. Andrew Wyatt helped write four out of the six songs on Miley’s She Is Coming EP and aided in two of the song’s production. He also helped write Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s “Shallow” as well as Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man” and “Grenade.”

DO WE HAVE ANY SINGLES YET?

As of right now, we only have “Midnight Sky.” That is perfectly fine, because it’s lit.

ANY COLLABORATIONS WITH OTHER ARTISTS?

Brace yourself, because there is a pretty good chance that Miley and Dua Lipa (!!!) might have something in the works together. Here’s why: Dua and Miley posted a photo of themselves together at watt’s studio, leading fans to speculate that they’re working on a song together.

Miley might also have a collaboration with rock n’ roll legend Billy Idol ready to go. They’re already friendly because they performed his song “Rebel Yell” together at the iHeartRadio Music Festival back in 2016.

If you snoop around on YouTube, Miley has an unreleased song from the record titled “Night Crawling” with Billy singing on the second verse. (But you didn’t hear it from me, got it?)

CAN WE EXPECT MILEY’S NEW ALBUM TO COME OUT SOON, OR???

Sorry, Smilers—you’re gonna have to wait a bit for Miley to release this record. Miley doesn’t want to release the album because she’s waiting until she can safely perform IRL so she can promote it properly.

“I really think that the record I made is meant for festivals, for shows, for touring. So for me, I really want to wait until I can perform,” she said in the Zach Sang interview. “My live performances really drive my music. That’s where I thrive: Me and the band. That’s what I would love to see happen in the near future, and I’m a patient person; Even though it may not seem that way, I am pretty patient, so I think I would like to wait until we can get connected to release a whole body of work.”

Here’s some bonus information for ya: Miley originally wanted to release the record through an elaborate three EP rollout plan, but she ultimately decided to shelf the idea. Once COVID-19 came around, Miley said it “didn’t make sense” for her to continue with the following two projects.

“I think all of us can agree that this year has been extremely unexpected and something that none of us could have planned or probably would have planned, but in a way, kind of the way that this song came about was, again, I guess I was feeling like it didn’t make sense for me to continue the next two projects,” she said in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music.

“She is Coming was a one of three EP drop, and I felt like, for my life, the way it evolves, how quickly it changes, how quickly I change, how public my experiences are, it doesn’t make sense for me to try to wrap up that big of a body of time in just a few songs and also even in a record, because I really have always enjoyed dropping singles, rather than the full body of work, because it allows you to talk to your fans in real time,” Miley added.

ARE THERE ANY MURMURS OF WHAT THE TRACKLIST WILL LOOK LIKE?

Actually, yes! Since Smilers are incredibly good at their job, some songs from the record have been leaked already. Will those leaked songs make it onto the album? Unclear! But in addition to the songs we already know about—i.e. “Slide Away,” “Midnight Sky,” and “High (ft. Mark Ronson)”—here are some rumored tracks that have slipped through the cracks, according to Genius:

– “Win Some Lose Some”
– “Victoria”
– “Plastic Hearts”
– “WTF Do I Know”
– “Night Crawling (feat. Billy Idol)
– “Gimme What I Want”

There’s also “Bad Karma,” a song that Miley sang for her fans last year during a Instagram Live.

Fans don’t have the official audio for any of these tracks, but the good news is Miley has a lotttt of possible options for what the final tracklist could look like. In her recent Zach Sang interview, she revealed she has about 20 songs written for the record. Be still, my beating heart.

That’s all we know about She Is Miley Cyrus so far, but keep your eyes on this story for any future updates.
