If you’ve scrolled through Instagram this week, chances are you’ve come across seaside snaps of cutely-clad gals wearing some of the most romantic silhouettes we ever did see. We are, of course, talking about Beach City. Every girly-girls’ answer to affordable, bucolic beachwear that you never want to take off.
Cosmo sat down with the founder, Daisy Raffan, to talk about her entrepreneurial journey. From her career growth to personal development.
On university studies…
I’d always been entrepreneurial and I’d always loved fashion and just knew there was a gap in the market in Dubai for affordable and unique ladies’ clothing. I studied business at university and did a double major in finance and marketing because at that time I still didn’t know what I wanted to do, so I just wanted to learn as much as possible.
On the secret no one tells you about starting your own company…
That it can get very lonely.Â
On mentors…
Fortunately, my parents are my mentors. They are both successful entrepreneurs. They’ve had successful businesses, they’ve had failures. So, I’m lucky enough to be always to go to them for advice. I think the word mentor, people give it such a big meaning, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. It can be somebody you already know, whose advice you appreciate. It doesn’t have to be the most successful you know.
On office mottos…
We’ve recently adopted the concept: sell things that you love. So when we get samples in it, it has to be something we love. We have a new rule now, do we like it? Or do we love it? We have to love it if we want to sell it.
On tips for running a successful business…
Set yourself goals and a timeline of how long it will take you to achieve these goals, be consistent, and be resourceful. When you are an entrepreneur you do everything yourself. I started the website, I did the marketing and I edited the photos. You can learn so much from Youtube and Google, you just need to be resourceful and just start with what you’ve got.
On the misconnections of being an entrepreneur…
People think that running a business is a lot easier than it looks. On the outside people just see the results, and on social media it is very easy to just show the highlights, but there is a lot of work that goes behind the scenes, and its true what they say you are working from the second you wake up till you go to sleep, there is no such thing as weekends.
On plans for the future…
The dream goal for the brand is to expand internationally and see people all over the world wearing Beach City.
