As travel around the world becomes easier and cheaper, finding a way to adjust to a timezone quickly is the key to making the most of far-flung holidays and not completely hating life when you return.
Well, according to one wellness expert, the key to beating jet lag could be as simple as just taking your shoes off and going for a walk outside.
Dave Asprey explained in his latest book, Head Strong, that it’s all about resetting the electrical charge in our body’s cells, reports The Independent.
“When you go up in an aeroplane, you build up a static charge in your body that slows the mitochondrial function,” Asprey explains in his book. “In other words, the battery in your body doesn’t hold a charge as well because you were disconnected from the earth.”
He claims that just by walking barefoot on the earth in mud or sand, you can ‘ground’ or ‘earth‘ your body which will reduce the feeling of jet lag.
Yes, we were sceptical at first, but there are even studies to back-up the benefits of ‘grounding’ and celebs such as Naomie Harris are advocates, too.
And seeing as it really couldn’t be easier to try out, it could be worth a shot next time you fly.
