In my perpetual quest for healthy-looking skin, I’ve come across Profhilo injections quite a few times as a viable option for a glow-giving, face-plumping boost. As an eternal sceptic, I just *had* to find out for myself whether or not this moisturizer-in-a-syringe lives up to its hype.
I saw Dr. Tijon Esho, visiting cosmetic doctor and star of Netflix’s Body Fixers, at The Nova Clinic to learn more about this cosmetic tweakment. After getting the deets, I told him to work his magic on my tired and dull-looking complexion. (Spoiler alert: I’m glad I did).
What is Profhilo?
First things first, “Profhilo is *not* fillers. Yes, it’s an invasive treatment involving needles, but it doesn’t work the way fillers work. Profhilo contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid and is injected into the skin with ultra-fine needles to provide deep hydration.”
“It works as an internal moisturiser by holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Profhilo not only hydrates the skin but also combats dullness and makes skin look more luminous and evenly textured. It also boosts the production of collagen and elastin, making skin appear firmer. It can be used anywhere on the body that needs a smoothing, youthful boost.”
I asked Dr. Esho what exactly he meant by all over the body. “Profhilo injections are great for sagging skin. People choose to get them in areas such as hands, abdomen, and arms, where they want to have a tauter looking appearance.” Hmm, I’ll keep this in mind for the future. For now, Dr. Esho’s explanation of Profhilo made me realise that this is exactly what I need on my face. Let’s get to it.

The treatment
The entire treatment consisted of ten injections that took less than 15 minutes to complete. My cheeks were first numbed with Emla cream, a topical lidocaine, and then Dr. Esho got to work. He explained that “since the injections are superficial, this is the only time in aesthetics that lumps are okay. After a few hours, the bumps will disappear. Profhilo injections are done as a pair, so in 30 days, you need to come back for your second treatment. The results last between nine to 12 months.”
As far as the pain factor goes, it was minimal. Yes, there were multiple injections but each one felt like a small to medium strength pinch. The process was over before I knew it. I was anticipating lumps (ten of them to be exact) to pop up on my face and was mildly disappointed to not even see one. I’m chalking that up to Dr. Esho’s magic touch. The next day, I was back to normal. No bruising or soreness to be found.
The results
Within a few days of receiving the Profhilo injections, the injection sites healed and my skin had already achieved a noticeably healthier, radiant, and plumped-up look. Not only did my complexion appear more supple, but it felt softer and more nourished too.
My skin type is extremely dry (I’m talking a Liwa desert level of dryness) and I was legit shook to experience the joy of waking up and not feeling like my face was about to crack in half. I’m really pleased with my glowing complexion and can’t wait for Profhilo round number two. Thank you, Dr. Esho.
