It’s that time of year again: The ~virtual~ fashion week runways and presentations are coming to a close, which means we officially know what fall 2021 makeup trends will be on the horizon this year. And, sure, fall might seem like a far way away, but if you want to get a leg up on all of your friends (which, duh), you probably want to go ahead and start wearing these looks right TF now. And considering fall’s top makeup trends are really freakin’ pretty (think lilac eyeshadow, soap brows, and face gems), you’ll have no objections when it comes to kicking a few of your winter staples to the curb. So keep scrolling for the seven coolest, most IG-worthy fall makeup trends straight from fashion month.
[1] Lilac Eyeshadow for Fall 2021
This rich shade of lilac eyeshadow looked absolutely gorgeous during the Preen by Thornton Bregazzi fall 2021 presentation. The coolest thing about this color? You can pair it with full-faced looks and no-makeup makeup vibes. Translation: You have a lot of room to play around and can easily fit it into your routine.
[2] Soap Brows for Fall 2021
Yep, the soap brow trend isn’t going anywhere for fall 2021, as shown on the Jason Wu runway at New York Fashion Week. It’s the perfect trend for getting that strong, brushed-up brow look, and it plays nicely with copper smokey eyes, neutral blush, and shiny lip gloss. P.S., Not sure how to do the look yourself? This soap-brows guide is a great place to start.
[3] Smokey Lids for Fall 2021
A thick smudge of black eyeshadow is all it takes to recreate this fall 2021 makeup look (and, fine, the epic styling from the Max Mara presentation doesn’t hurt either). Blend a pigmented shadow across your lids with your fingertips for an edgier look, or grab an angled brush and a gel eyeliner pot for a more precise finish.
[4] Vampy Lips for Fall 2021
This fall 2021 makeup look from the Sandy Liang presentation is all about contrast: Dark plum lipstick becomes extra rich and vampy against bare skin and eyes. When trying this look out yourself, don’t be afraid to go extra matte (you want this trend to last behind your face mask, right? Right).
[5] Accent Stickers for Fall 2021
These genius little star accents from the Burberry runway have basically singlehandedly convinced me to step out of my makeup comfort zone this fall. DW, you don’t need to deck out your entire face in decals and stickers if that’s not your thing—just tack on a couple gems around your eyes or along your cheekbones for a simple (and very IG-worthy) look.
[6] Abstract Eyes for Fall 2021
Leave it to Pat McGrath to dream up these mod makeup looks for Anna Sui’s fall 2021 show. This makeup trend is all about abstract details, negative space, and thick lines, so make sure you have some super-pigmented eyeshadow on hand (and a couple detailing brushes) before giving it a try.
[7] Black Eyeliner for Fall 2021
Ditch your classic winged eyeliner for fall 2021 and go for this grungy look from Victoria Beckham’s presentation. Smudge an inky black formula on your top and bottom lines, and finish off the look with neutral lipstick and subtle contouring.
