On Tuesday 9th February (today) at 7pm, UAE’s Hope Probe mission will officially complete its 7 month journey to Mars! (Yes you heard that right, UAE sent the Hope Probe to the Red Planet… crazy right). Oh and btw this is the first of three space missions attempting to do this, this month.

Today Emirates’ Hope Probe will enter into a superrr important phase in the mission and it will attempt the Mars Orbit insertion! This is really intense and it lasts about 27 minutes (that may not sound like a long time… but trust me those 27 nail-biting minutes). Experts predict that there is about a 50 per cent success rate.

Today is a special day for the UAE, and they are going all out with celebrations. All the babies born today on February 9th are being called ‘Special Babies’ and will be given extra special pins made just for them, in hopes to inspire them to become future astronauts!

And that’s not all, all visitors coming to the UAE will get a special stamp on their passport. This special stamp will be made of Basalt Rock (the same type of rock that is found on Mars)! So basically anyone coming to the UAE will get a small piece of Mars on their passport – pretty cool right!

Obviously the Cosmo Team joined in on the action and celebrations:

3, 2, 1… Emirates Mars Mission is the 1st ever Arab mission to another planet. Hope Probe lands on Mars in 2021. Good luck! #marsmission2020 #fy
