You feel a tug at your heart when you hear the azaan (the Islamic call to prayer), but you’re not “technically” Muslim. Or maybe you are… but you’re still figuring it out? You’ve started saying InshAllah (God willing) without even realising it. It’s 2 AM, and you’re googling “Is it Muslim to…”. You’ve made ChatGPT your Muslim coach, and now the algorithm is sending you TikToks about modest fashion.

You’ve been curious about Islam for years, but navigating that curiosity feels overwhelming. You don’t want to offend anyone. You have a million questions and no idea where to begin. You’ve been praying for a safe space to explore what being a Muslimah could look like. Your heart is drawn to faith, but your journey doesn’t look like everyone else’s and that’s okay.

We see you. And more importantly, you’re not alone.

As part of the new ‘Ask a Muslim Girl’ column, Cosmopolitan Middle East asked Hana, a Muslim thought leader and founder of the Dream.Dua.Do Podcast, for support. Hana helps women align their faith with their goals through intentional living, mindset, and prayer. She creates Islamic affirmations, hosts workshops, and designs spiritual productivity tools to empower women globally.

At the heart of everything she does is the belief that when a Muslim woman transforms her inner world, everything around her shifts too. She’s got some advice for you.

Cosmo ME: What advice would you give people who are curious about the Islamic faith?

Hana: Don’t overthink it. Don’t worry about having everything figured out. You don’t need to be perfect or know Arabic or wear certain clothes right away. Start with the essence. Start with the questions in your heart. Explore who Allah is. Not just what people say about Him, but what He says about Himself. He is Ar-Rahman, the Most Merciful and Al-Haadi, the One who guides. Islam isn’t about fear or restriction. It’s about deep peace, purpose, and alignment with your fitrah (your pure inner self).

Cosmo ME: Where should people start if their heart is curious?

Hana: If your heart is curious about Islam… start with the One who created it all. Start with Allah. Not the rules, not the people, not the noise. Just Him. Ask yourself: Who is Allah? And then open the Qur’an and see how He describes Himself. You’ll find love, mercy, forgiveness, and intimacy. You’ll realise Islam isn’t about becoming someone else; it’s about returning to who you were always meant to be.

Cosmo ME: What are ways people can stay grounded through this process?

Hana: Converting can feel overwhelming, like you have to change everything overnight—but Islam isn’t a finish line, it’s a journey of the heart. Start small: talk to Allah in your own words, anchor yourself in love not fear, and let your connection guide your steps. Surround yourself with people who remind you of Allah gently, and be patient with your growth. Sincerity always outweighs perfection. If your heart feels pulled toward Him, that’s not pressure—that’s love, and that’s where your journey begins.
