We all know Bella and Gigi Hadid thanks to their modelling careers but they also have a lesser-known sister named Alana Hadid.

The fashion designer is just as accomplished as her sis’ and is on a mission to amplify Palestinian voices by launching an independent film production and distribution label named Watermelon Pictures.

Alana shared the announcement via the brand’s IG account with a post reading: “We are so proud to introduce Watermelon Pictures! A Palestinian-owned film label that promises to make sure that from now on, Palestine WILL be seen #FromTheRiverToTheScreen.

“A production company that allows us to control our own narrative. A distribution company to share our stories with the world. A hub to develop our stories and talent, and produce films that entertain, educate, and inspire. We’re building a space for artists who dare to picture liberation. And so much more! Join us.”

The first project up is named Walled Off and is a doc about Walled Off Hotel, a Palestinian-managed hotel which was financed and designed by British street artist Banksy and is located in Bethlehem opposite the Israeli West Bank barrier wall.

It’s understood that the film, co-produced by Gigi, Bella and Alana’s brother Anwar Hadid, focuses on Palestinians living in the area and discusses the importance of creative resistance as a form of protest.

The Hadid siblings are Palestinian-Dutch and have always been vocal about the importance of their Palestinian heritage.
