In less than a month, India‘s famous Festival of Lights, Diwali, will begin.

This festival represents the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and wisdom over ignorance. In most of India, Diwali is celebrated for five days.

Millions of people around the world will celebrate this huge festival, and just in time for this year’s celebrations, Mattel has released a new Barbie doll, a true Indian Diwali Princess, that looks gorgeous.

Mattel designed this special doll in collaboration with famous Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre. “Designing the Barbie Diwali doll was truly a fun and fulfilling experience. This Barbie Diwali doll represents the fashion-forward modern woman who proudly wears India on her sleeve.” Anita said on via her Instagram account.

She was honoured to be given this opportunity and judging by the doll, she did a great job. She hopes it will “inspire children around the world to connect with their culture and heritage”. And we believe her hopes will come true.

The doll is dressed in a beautiful Moonlight Bloom look that features a choli top, floral koti waistcoat and lehenga skirt, all prettified with dahlias, jasmine and Indian lotus, according to the product details on Mattel’s website. And of course, the Diwali Barbie wears gorgeous gold shoes, bangles and large gold earrings that “sparkle in the light”. We are totally *obsessed* with her.

Anita didn’t have Barbie dolls as a child as Mattel didn’t sell in India at that time. We are even happier for her that she now has her very own Indian princess. Well done Anita!
