We’ve all seen it, the razors that cost up to Dhs10 more just because they’re pink, the moisturisers that have had their prices hiked up just so they can go on female skin, and we have all off steam when you find an identical shirt or T-shirt in the men’s section for a fraction of the price of the women’s.
Well, this week the close-to-the-bone card game, Cards Against Humanity has ingeniously trolled the entire ‘pink tax’ market with Cards Against Humanity For Her.
“We crunched the numbers, and to our surprise, we found that women buy more than 50 percent of games,” Cards Against Humanity’s community director Jenn Bane said in a suitably sarcastic statement. “We decided that hey, it’s 2017, it’s time for women to have a spot at the table, and nevertheless, she persisted. That’s why we made Cards Against Humanity for Her. It’s trendy, stylish, and easy to understand. And it’s pink… Women love the colour pink.”
“Cards Against Humanity for Her contains exactly the same cards as the original game, but it is branded differently,” the tongue-in-cheek statement reads. The game is currently being sold for $30 (Dhs100), which is $5 (Dhs18) more than the classic game on the company’s website. (Update: The game is currently out of stock)
“Cards Against Humanity for Her makes me feel like my type of beautiful,” the press release goes on to say, quoting ‘writer Lisa Beasley’. “I can’t wait to share this game with my girls. As a black woman who makes 63 cents on the dollar, I would dip into my savings to get this game.”
