In the eyes of most people, Beyoncé can do no wrong. An exceptionally talented singer who uses her platform to make powerful points about feminism, there’s a reason she’s known widely as ‘Queen Bey’.
But because… the internet, there are some people who want to bring the singer down. Specifically, by making public comments about the way she looks. In the January issue of Elle UK, in which the magazine invited readers to ask the questions, Beyoncé was quizzed on how she deals with the constant scrutiny when it comes to her appearance. Her answer, unsurprisingly, was inspiring.
“If someone told me 15 years ago that my body would go through so many changes and fluctuations, and that I would feel more womanly and secure with my curves, I would not have believed them,” the Lemonade singer asserted.
“But children and maturity have taught me to value myself beyond my physical appearance and really understand that I am more than enough no matter what stage I’m at in life. Giving zero f*cks is the most liberating place to be.”
Acknowledging it’s not always easy to be so care-free about other people’s opinions, Beyoncé shared some valuable words of wisdom for getting there: “Knowing true beauty is something you cannot see. I wish more people focused on discovering the beauty within themselves rather than critiquing other folks’ grills.”
For Beyoncé, the most important thing is looking after her body, not succumbing to unnecessary scrutiny. Discussing the importance self-care, the singer revealed that she took a year to focus on her health after experiencing a difficult pregnancy.
“I have researched information on homeopathic medicines. I don’t just put any prescription in my body. My diet is important, and I use tools like acupuncture, meditation, visualisation and breathing exercises,” she said.
It might appear that Beyoncé is super-human, and while she does try to remain unfazed when it comes to unsolicited criticism, she’s not completely impenetrable. When asked how she reacts to negative comments about herself, the mother-of-three candidly replied: “Yes, I’m human.”
She continued: “In moments of vulnerability, I try to remind myself I’m strong and I’m built for this. Thank God most of the noise bounces off of me after all of these years.”
