“I want a divorce” is def not something you want to hear coming out of bae’s mouth. Unless ofc… the settlement cash is a pretty sweet deal, and for some lucky ladies AND gents (we don’t discriminate), being unlucky in love may be the best thing that ever happened to them. In fact, many celeb SO’s have walked away with millions, if not billions in “compensation.” And for the recently divorced Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos, heading to splitsville may be his most expensive decision yet. To be precise, his split from wife-of-25-years MacKenzie Bezos cost him a whopping Dhs139 billion (he def has more than “breaking up with his girlfriend” to go home and cry about). Yikes. Well, who said breaking up would be easy? Apart from Jeff, who has now dethroned French businessman Alec N. Wildenstein for “the most expensive divorce,” golf-player Tiger Woods, Mel Gibson and other stars have had their pockets emptied too. Well, let’s just say the train to splistville is def a bumpy road, so we’ve rounded up some of the most indebted passengers. 

1. Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Bezos: Dhs139.5 billion

The most recent costly divorce, this split was just announced yesterday via twitter after 25 years of marriage (jeez, that’s a long time!). In return, MacKenzie received 25% of Amazon shares aka Dhs139.5 billion, an amount that a normal person could only dream of (aka me). 

2. Alec Wildenstein and Joceyln Wildenstein: Dhs9.2 billion

After cutting the cord in 1999, Alec Wildenstein not only split from wife of 21 years Jocelyn, but also made a clean break from his cash. With an initial divorce settlement of Dhs9.2 billion plus an additional 100 mil for the next.. wait for it… 13 years, Jocelyn is def not shedding any tears over this breakup!

3. Rupert Murdoch and Anna Torv: Dhs6.2 billion

Three children and 31 years together weren’t enough to keep these two lovebirds afloat it seems. Rupert Murdoch and his second wife Anna Torv called it quits reportedly after “Rupert refused to quit [his job] and retire with her.” Well, we guess Rupert regrets it now, because it cost him upwards of Dhs6 billion! 

4. Bernie Ecclestone and Slavica Radic: Dhs4.4 billion

On the grounds of his “unreasonable behaviour, model Slavica Radic split from the Formula One CEO Bernie and boy did she receive a heck of a pay day. Apparently, the whole settlement amounted to a whopping 256-page indictment aka not good for Bernie. Not good at all. 

5. Steve Wynn and Elaine Wynn: Dhs2.7 billion

Surprisingly, these two tied the knot not once but twice and… both marriages went kaput. Guess they should have cut their losses the first time, but no. Instead, Elaine Wynn, who was also a billionaire at the time of the couple’s second divorce, received another large cash flow influx on top of her already plentiful fortune. Wowza is right. 

I’m just saying, I def wouldn’t be “emotionally distressed” anymore if my ex-hubby gave me a billion dollars. In fact, I’d probably go buy a sportscar and call it even.
