Between saving the world and reckoning with their own traumas, the characters of The Umbrella Academy truly keep us coming back time and time again. With each new season topping the ones before it, needless to say, the show’s continuous welcome reception isn’t a coincidence. That’s why we wouldn’t be shocked if you binged season 3 in, well, a record-breaking go!
So if you’re like us and also wondering whether season 4 is in the works over at Netflix, here are absolutely all of the public deets so far, from us to you.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: WILL THERE BE A SEASON 4 OF THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY?
So far, we don’t have concrete news about season 4, but given the show’s sheer popularity and ratings, it’d be wild to hear anything but a yes. Plus, there’s the fact that showrunner Steve Blackman signed a huge, multi-year deal with Netflix in 2020 on top of all the rumours circulating that the streamer greenlit season 4 in secret before season 3 had even hit screens. Either way, hopefully, we’ll get official news soon!
WHAT WOULD SEASON 4 BE ABOUT?
Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy has been pretty good about loosely following the body of work it’s based on, aka the series of comic books created and written by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. Season 3, for instance, pulled some of its materials from series 3 of the comic, The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion; however, there *is* a new, fourth series of the comic that hasn’t been released. This could provide additional storylines if and when season 4 debuts. Exciting stuff, huh? Because we’re going into uncharted plot waters, it could also be the case that the TV show opts to move away from the comics into TV-specific storylines.

WHO ARE THE SEASON 4 CAST MEMBERS?
Because season 3 ended in a reset universe, we wouldn’t be shocked if those who we thought were deceased make an appearance (@Cazzie David, we’re looking at you!). However, we can expect all of the original Hargreeves actors to return to our screens should the series continue, including Elliot Page, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Tom Hopper, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min.
WHEN WOULD SEASON 4 HIT NETFLIX?
Sadly, Netflix has yet to ~officially~ renew the series, so we can’t give you an exact release date here. That said, because of the sheer number of cast members and OTT visual effects à la Stranger Things involved, it wouldn’t be shocking if season 4 arrived at least a year from now, in 2023 at the earliest. Also, if the past is any indication, season 2 *did* drop during summer 2020 and season 3 arrived almost two years later, which makes summer 2024 look like a possibility for season 4…but with pandemic restrictions lifting around the country (including at production sets), it might not be delayed quite that much.
