If you, too, have been personally victimized by the Wednesday series—namely because you need a season 2 from Netflix, like, yesterday—then you’ve come to the right place. The show managed to surpass Stranger Things by garnering 341.23 million hours viewed in its first week, becoming the most-watched English-language series in that amount of time for the streamer. TL;DR: To say that the Addams Family spin-off has catapulted to top-tier levels of popularity is a serious understatement, and Netflix knows it. Enter: the streamer officially announcing there will be a Wednesday season 2!
Ahead, find every single thing we know about Wednesday season 2 (including all the deets on those cancellation rumors all over TikTok and the deal with a potential Lady Gaga cameo) c/o some good old-fashioned snooping.
Okay, seriously, will there be a Wednesday season 2 or not??
It’s official: There will absolutely be a season 2 of Wednesday! Netflix confirmed the news on Twitter with this amazing announcement video:

Before the good news came, Deadline reported that the streamer intended to renew Wednesday for season 2 in the New Year 2023, which is exactly what happened. The renewal also seemed likely because, according to Deadline, head honchos at Netflix were “actively searching for writers to join the writers’ room” *and* “scouting locations for the next chapter of the series.” Not-ed!
The show’s creators and stars were super interested in a second installment of the project. Co-showrunner Miles Millar spoke with TVLine about continuing the series, saying, “We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles.…Catherine [Zeta-Jones] is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important.”
Additionally, Alfred Gough (co-creator and executive producer of the Netflix dark drama) hinted at a possible follow-up before the official renewal, revealing, “Miles [Millar] and I are talking amongst ourselves about it. There’s definitely more that you can explore in the world of the Addamses.” Alfred also went on to say that just like with season 1, the plan is to feature the rest of Wednesday’s family in some of the episodes with the primary focus remaining firmly on Wednesday herself.
Actor Gwendoline Christie has also teased her return for a potential second season as well in a spoiler-filled quote (so scroll past if you haven’t finished season 1 yet!): “We haven’t seen her put in the ground, have we?” the Game of Thrones alum said in an interview with Digital Spy. “I feel like Larissa Weems would not really be prepared to entertain or be dominated by anything as commonplace as death.” 👀
Jenna herself even shared her own ideas and hopes for season 2. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the actor straight-up dished, “I kind of want [Wednesday] to be darker,” before adding that she hoped the character wouldn’t “play things so safe” in future episodes. “There are a lot of lines about her saving the school and doing whatever, but for me, her main drive with the monster is of competitiveness,” Jenna added. “Kind of, ‘Man, how’s this guy doing this?’ I think I want it to continue down an antihero stream rather than a typical hero.”
Who has been cast in Wednesday season 2?
Sadly, there’s no official word on who will return (or make their debut, for that matter) in Wednesday season 2. But because we know you’re curious, here’s everyone from season 1 who could be back:
- Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams
- Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams
- Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams
- Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams
- Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester
- Gwendoline Christie as Principal Larissa Weems
- Jamie McShane as Sheriff Galpin
- Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe
- Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin
- Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
- Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
Are the rumors of Lady Gaga joining the Wednesday cast true?
Mother Monster and Wednesday teaming up would be nothing short of iconic, but any word of Lady Gaga joining Wednesday is firmly in gossip territory at this point.
That said, Gaga gave major love to the show when TikTokers began using her 2011 song “Bloody Mary” in Wednesday-inspired dances, and Jenna Ortega loved every minute of it, calling the fact that Gaga even knows her work “very strange.”

“A long time ago, I worked with a hairdresser who used to work with her and I had just seen Lady Gaga in concert in Boston a couple of years before and she had made me a video saying, ‘Oh, hey, Jenna! I heard you’re a fan,’ and it was a really, really sweet video,” Jenna told Variety at the 2023 Golden Globes.
“I doubt she even remembers or even knows who I was back then, but to see her do [the dance] now, it was kind of one of those moments where you acknowledge that life changes really, really fast and it’s really crazy,” she added.

What is Wednesday season 2’s expected release date?
It’s hard to guesstimate. How-ev-er, if we look at the timeline of season 1—which began filming in September 2021 and wrapped around March 2022 (adding in the ~eight months it took for the show to hit our screens)—we know the total turnover time from beginning to end was around a year and a month.
If Netflix wants another season and follows the same blueprint, Wednesday would need six months to film and eight months of postproduction, which would leave us looking at an early to mid-2024 release date!
And no, Wednesday has not been canceled!
In the event that you’ve come across the rumors swirling that Wednesday has been canceled, fear not! Some recent TikTok vids have sent the show’s fans into a frenzy by essentially claiming the production company behind Wednesday (aka MGM Studios) was sold from Netflix to Amazon, leaving the show’s future in question.
That said, what the sitch *actually* looks like IRL is the following: Deadline reported last year that Amazon bought MGM for $8.5 billion, so the tech company now owns the rights to the series. And according to a more recent report from The Independent, that means there’s currently a sort of bidding war for season 2 of Wednesday between Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
However, Amazon did state it has no intentions of making any of the MGM content exclusive to Amazon Prime Video, as per Deadline. Rather, it’s looking to license out the content, which could end up bringing it tons more $$$ in the long run. So crisis = averted, thanks to…capitalism, of all things?!?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
