Cher was totally the star of Clueless, but Dionne’s one-liners and grown-up attitude really didn’t get enough credit in the movie. Now, however, the tables have turned and a brand new Clueless TV spin-off is set to give Dionne the role of lead character.
According to Variety, the show will focus on Dionne (originally portrayed by Stacey Dash) and is already in development at Peacock. It’s also going to have more of a mystery vibe about it, which we are totally excited about. Writers Jordan Reddout and Gus Hicke have called it “a baby pink and blue-tinted, tiny sun-glasses wearing, oat milk latte and Adderall-fuelled look at what happens when queen be Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans”. Ok, so we aren’t sure quite what to visualise from that, but we know it’s gonna be good.
Giving us major PLL vibes, they continued “how does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school while also unravelling the mystery of what happened to her best friend?”. Is anyone else getting the feeling of High School Musical meets Desperate Housewives?
Clueless celebrated its 25th anniversary this year and we have been waiting for a sequel or spin-off pretty much ever since it was first released. We don’t have a release date of the spin-off just yet, but hopefully they don’t keep us waiting for our checked-mini-skirt-and-cardigan fashion fix too long!
