This hilarious Mindy Kaling creation doesn’t disappoint. But wait, is this the end? Fans are on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting news about a potential spin-off series for Never Have I Ever. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with all the details right here. Keep reading to find out!
What is Never Have I Ever About?
This Netflix comedy-drama series is co-created by the iconic Mindy Kaling. It follows Devi Vishwakumar, played by our previous cover star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and is low-key inspired by Mindy herself. Devi is an Indian-American high school student, who deals with her squad, fam, and boy troubles while also trying to cope with the heavy grief from losing her dad.
Throughout the seasons, we ride the emotional rollercoaster with Devi, as she goes through the ups and downs of grief, makes tough choices between Paxton and Ben, and deals with some major friendship drama and more. The show has been a hit ever since it first premiered.
[SPOILERS AHEAD] In a jaw-dropping finale, the Never Have I Ever series leaves us with a bombshell. Narrator John McEnroe spills the tea, revealing that brainiac lovebirds Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison) are diving headfirst into a real relationship. Despite the long-distance struggle, with Ben at Columbia University in NYC and Devi at Princeton University in NJ, they’re keeping the love alive—”for now”. But hold up, doesn’t Season 4 mark the end?
Let’s clear things up: Yes, season 4 is the grand finale. However, the words “for now” hint at what lies ahead for Devi and Ben in the future, which is beyond the show’s wild ride.
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan tells Tudum “‘For now’ means, to me, that this is just a moment in time because the roller-coaster ride of life continues.”

With that being said, even though Never Have I Ever is over, Lewison is looking forward to some kind of collaboration in the future. “I don’t know if that means in 10 or 15 years Maitreyi and I agree to do a rom-com together and [creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher] come back,” he says. What about Ben and Devi? “It’s up to interpretation for the audience what happens to Ben and Devi,” Lewison says. “There is a lot of room for interpretation. So I’m looking forward to reading the discourse regarding that on the fan pages and the Reddits and Instagram or whatever else that I can hear from fans,” they tell Tudum.

Mindy previously told E! that there won’t be more seasons of seeing the characters through their college years. “Unfortunately, young people grow up and you can’t be 17 forever,” she explained. “I’m really happy with where we ended with the stories and with the characters’ growth.”
On asking which character she’d consider for a spin-off, Mindy said Trent played by Benjamin Norris. “Honestly, he’s so funny to me,” she said. “He really makes me laugh, so finding out [more about] Trent and seeing what his haircare routine is every morning. I would definitely watch that show. I’d definitely like to write that show.”
However, she hasn’t said a straight no to a spin-off. “I absolutely would consider doing that if there was a demand,” she told PopSugar. “I’ve never thought about a spinoff actually. It’s a fun thought experiment, but I haven’t actually thought of one.”
Never Have I Ever season 4 is streaming on Netflix now.
