We can all agree that underwear is definitely (well arguably) our most used piece of clothing, which is why we’ve come here to give you insights on the proper way to wash your intimate linens or lingerie or delicates or whatever you want to call them.
Obviously, as women, we’re very intentional about the textures and materials of our underwear. We always want to make sure that whatever we put on are extremely clean for use, but it turns out that you may not be doing the most when it comes to your lingerie laundry.
1. Use delicate-specific washing liquid.
One common mistake people make is using a detergent that’s too harsh to wash their underwear. Harsh detergents often contain bleach, phosphates, or enzymes that can break down certain fabrics, so opt for washing pods that are labelled “delicate” or “gentle”.
2. Do not wash your bra after every use
‘Kay, we know that there are not many things that can make a woman uncomfortable like a pair of dirty undies, but I promised you, it is advised to wash your bras after every six to eight wears. Constant washing of your bra can actually break down the materials that provide support and do more harm than good.
3. Hand wash lightweight wool or cotton jersey
For lingerie and fine knits with labels that say “hand-wash”, fill a basin or sink with warm or cold water, as directed by the label. While the basin fills, add detergent for the fabrics, and wash as instructed.
4. Do not overcrowd your delicates
It’s always advisable to put your underwear into mesh laundry bags, as they protect textures of items. You can put more than one item in a bag, but don’t overcrowd them.
5. Always hang to dry
It’s worth knowing that it’s always best to hang expensive items to make them last longer. Washing machines are great, but they tend to shrink clothes, so if you spent some extra coins on your underwear, you should probably make some extra space for them on the dryer.
