With its almost instant global success, we just *knew* that Netflix’s popular K-drama series, Squid Game, couldn’t be over for good. Not to mention how season 1 ended with a pretty intense cliff-hanger (iykyk) so there’s no way it wasn’t coming back to our screens.
Thankfully, we were right. Season 2 is a go people!
The ingenious director, writer, and creator behind all the dystopian gruesomeness, Hwang Dong-hyuk, mentioned in late September that there were no “well-developed plans” or intent for a Squid Game sequel as “it is quite tiring thinking about it.” However, as the show grew to become a huge hit, things seemed to change. Dong-hyuk became more positive about a potential season 2.
During an interview at a special Hollywood screening of Squid Game, he states that “there will indeed be a second season” *woop woop*. He also notes that “there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for the second season. So I almost feel like you [the fans] leave us no choice!”
Ahh yes, how the beautiful art of social media pressure can truly work wonders sometimes.

What’s clear however is that the sequel probs won’t be returning to our screens anytime soon as Netflix has yet to announce an official renewal and Hwang Dong-hyuk mentions that “It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently.”
Who will feature in the Squid Game season 2?
Rumour has it that the new season will be starring an entirely new cast apart from the lead actor Gi-hun and perhaps the antagonist of the series, the Front Man. Hwang says, “Gi-Hun will come back. He will do something for the world.” And honestly, that little teaser alone is enough to keep us going.

What’s the plot for season 2?
Season 2 will be looking to further dwell into the characters’ past. “There are some loose ends I’d like to explore if I were to make a second season. The Frontman’s unexplained past, detective Jun-ho’s story. Those are things I didn’t explain in Season 1,” he said to CNN. “If I were to do Season 2, I’d like to explain those elements. And the man with the Ttakji in his bags…the man who was played by Gong Yoo.
Wi Ha-joon, who plays Hwang Jun-ho, a police officer on the lookout for his brother, revealed how he’s looking forward to what happens between his character and his brother.
“I’m also dying to find out. I haven’t heard anything, so I really want to know what happened,” said Wi. “If there is to be a season two, and if Jun-ho is to return, then I personally hope we can look into his relationship with his brother, as well as what made his brother make these choices and led him to being there. That’s my personal wish.”
Just know that we’re ready to call in sick for another binge-watching session when you are, Hwang Dong-hyuk. No pressure.
