It’s time to board the Grand Merry and make our way over to the Grand Line because Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece is finally setting off on her maiden voyage. You don’t have to be a super fan to know that the original anime and manga have been going on for quite some time, which means that there’s still plenty of story to tell with the Straw Hat Pirates. So does this mean that we’ll be seeing more?

Here’s everything you need to know about One Piece season 2.

Is One Piece coming back for season 2?

Netflix hasn’t revealed any news about a renewal just yet, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t happen. The show was just released and people are still tuning in, so there’s always a chance for it to come back.

The show has been the number-one TV show on Netflix since its release, so it’s safe to say that fans are enjoying it so far. It’s also been praised by new and old fans of the series, so there definitely is a hunger for more! And considering the fact that the show has hinted at something huge happening next, fans are definitely crossing their fingers for another season.

What would season 2 of One Piece be about?

Well, the final shot of the finale gave us a big clue as to where the show is going next. And, actually, the series has been pretty faithful to all of the anime arcs so far, so it makes total sense that they continue with their next big adventure.

With a mysterious new character being introduced (IYKYK), it’s clear that the show will be heading straight into the Loguetown Arc from the anime and manga. And if you’re not sure what that means, it’s chapters 96-100 in the manga and episodes 45 and 48-53 of the anime. Episodes 46 and 47 follow Buggy’s crew, so it’s also possible we’ll see pieces of that.

This also means that the show would complete the East Blue Saga and later move on to the Arabasta Saga. Whether that full saga will be in season 2 remains to be season, but it’s clear that the live-action is going at its own pace.

Anything after that will be determined by how many episodes the show gets in its second season and how many arcs it can fit in. However, since season 1 only received 8 episodes, there’s a good chance that the series will follow the same format going forward with its future seasons. But with over 1000 manga chapters and anime episodes out, there’s plenty more to come!

In fact, One Piece co-showrunner Steven Maeda told Variety that asking about season 2 is “a worthwhile ask — and answers will be forthcoming.”

However, even without a renewal, he noted that, “I don’t want to speak on the continuation of One Piece at this point in time, just because this first season was such a bear. It was a wonderful challenge, but it took years out of our lives and I want to really let the focus be on that for the launch.”

When will we know when One Piece will be renewed?

With the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike and the AMPTP’s unwillingness to give them a fair deal, it’s a little tough to tell when a renewal will be announced. However, we’re still hopeful for the future of the show (and the industry) and hopefully, we’ll hear some good news about contracts and renewals soon!
