After a one-year hiatus, the organisers of Egypt’s El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) have announced that the festival is officially returning.

The 6th edition which was meant to be held in 2022 will take place between October 13th to October 20th at the Red Sea Resort Town. The festival is also back with a brand new executive director, co-founder Amr Mansi. He has played an important role in the festival’s been playing an important role in the festival’s success for the past few years.

The official Instagram account shared their excitement for Mansi’s new role on Instagram as they shared that “Mansi’s appointment is in line with the festival’s mission to provide a productive experience which in turn will grow and strengthen its role as a catalyst for the development of the industry in the region.”

The festival also confirmed that director Intishal Al Tamimi will remain in his role as the festival’s director.

What happened to the El Gouna Film Festival in 2022?

In 2022, the El Gouna Film Festival Instagram account released a statement that the 2022 edition would be canceled due to “current global challenges”.

They also shared that they “need to develop an integrated strategy that will live up to the growing expectations of the festival as a leading platform for film, art, and culture, the decision was made to postpone the festival”.
