The awards season is in full swing and we are bursting with pride to see the wins of the Asian community on the global stage. After years of being misrepresented and being the “supporting actor number 3” in Hollywood, south Asians are finally getting the main character spot they deserve! Just like they did at the 95th Oscars ceremony last night. Below we’ve rounded up 5 of our favourite moments from the award show that made this fellow south Asian (a.k.a me), stand taller and smile brighter.

Another Asian queen that shined bright at the 95th Oscars ceremony was Michelle Yeoh. The stunning 60-year-old star (yes, we can’t believe she is 60 either!), made history by becoming the first Asian woman to win the Best Actress award for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Streaming soon on Netflix, this short film from India follows a tribal couple as they decide to foster an orphaned baby elephant called Raghu. As the movie unravels, the audience will witness how the giant yet gentle animal transforms the life of the couple forever.
