Have You Seen This Super Cute Scottish Bagpiper Around Dubai?

Ross O’Connell Jennings is a man with a plan, a plan to become the first person in the world to play the bagpipes in every country. Known as The First Piper, Ross’ kilted travels have taken him everywhere from Malaysian TV to Canadian skiing festivals, and more recently he’s been here in the UAE, Oman and Kuwait, always with his bagpipes in hand.

In Dubai

Bagpipes and the Burj You're probably bored of seeing the Burj Khalifa with stunning blue skies and white fluffy clouds, so here she is in all her gloomy wonder I've been told that I'm ultra lucky to have experienced Dubai with wind, rain and intense cloud cover. If you follow me on @RossOCJennings this may look a little familiar (I couldn't resist a photo with my pipes as well ) The @SMCCU has coffee shops, trendy little stores and plenty of nooks and crannies for decent snaps. "Habibi I hunt with this falcon, what can your bagpipes even do?" "Ok touché" For one of my mornings in Dubai I went down The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding. Initially it felt a bit contrived, but it wasn't until I had done a tour and had joined one of their group lunches that I started to appreciate everything that goes into the place. This gent here is hands down the best thing about the centre! His name is Naji, he's a true Bedouin (genuinely sleeps in that tent behind us, despite living in the city) and he has a falcon! Legend! As soon as I started piping, he was off dancing with his falcon and getting everyone involved! In Kuwait

Well hello there Kuwait !! مرحبا I've had mixed responses from people (even Kuwaiti's!!) when I've told them I'm here for the week. "There's nothing to do here!!" I've been told numerous times, but I beg to differ… there's plenty of eligible piping spots! Apparently there's a strict noise law in Kuwait, but I'm yet to be subject to it, so I'm having a blast so far. My enjoyment has, in part, been down to the wonderful Kuwaiti family that I'm staying with, and of course this man here @7mnoush my Kuwaiti brother for the week (who also took this snap ). #Kuwait #KuwaitTowers #NationalDay

In Oman

Spot the piper So many people recommended Wadi Shab in Oman, which made me think it was going to be jam packed and totally ruined. Nope. It was absolutely fantastiche. The scale of the gorge is unreal and it kept on getting better and better the further you went in. Yes there are a few plastic pipes here and there, and it gets busy during the weekends but it made for a great mini adventure #WadiShab #ExperienceOman #GorgeousGorges

The shabi'est of Wadis When choosing somewhere to pipe, being on a hill or a mountain makes for a seriously great setting, so it's usually what I aim for. The more I travel, the more I find unusual places with incredible natural acoustics. Wadi Shab was not an exception! On my first trip I was able to explore with fellow country collector @jess_ismore and on my return it was empty apart from a few local farmers. They were keen on hearing the "Qurba" (Gulf Arabic for Bagpipes), but looked a bit perplexed when they realised how loud it was and by the fact I wanted to stand in the water! #Allforthephoto #WadiShab #GorgeousGorges

The doorways of Nizwa The main attraction in Nizwa (Oman!) seems to be the Fort, but the other day I arrived way too late to get in. I was fairly grateful for it though, otherwise I wouldn't have ended up wandering the backstreets, exploring the ruins and admiring the beautiful old doors. Precipices made for piping It's taken me a week of travelling through Oman to decide the perfect spot to pipe. Muscat and the coastline are incredible; however, mountains and bagpipes are always a win. Fortunately Oman has the Al Hajar Mountain Range, which stretch from one tip of the Arabian peninsula to another. With abandoned villages and forts dotting the hillsides, this place has endless scope for mini adventures. Jabal Akhdar (aka the Green Mountain) is where I finally decided to tick off Oman, but there's many more spots to come. Huge thank you to the @alilajabalakhdar for hosting me for a few nights and allowing me access to this private canyon. The views at this place are incredible! In Bahrain

Apparently a camel farm visit is a must do when you're in Bahrain so I thought I'd pay the 's a wee visit. I know playing the bagpipes in front of animals is a bit of a weird thing to do but you get some interesting responses. Giraffes, cows and horses seem to be pretty intrigued but it turns out camels are NOT a fan. The Qal'at al-Bahrain, aka Fort of Bahrain, is probably the most important archaeological site on the island. It's been around for a few thousand years so has some serious history behind it (and it's no doubt seen a piper or two in it's time).
