If there’s one Snapchat feature that has terrorized its users ever since Stories hit the scene, it’s auto-advance.
One second you’re calmly watching Kylie Jenner cook a quesadilla at her new mansion. The next, without warning, you’re watching your ex on a brunch date with their new boo. And then you have to live with the knowledge that they know you watched it. The only thing you can do in that case is text them, “Hey so I only watched your Story by accident and couldn’t care less how delicious those eggs Benedict were.” Yeah, no — it’s dangerous!
Fortunately, Snapchat has heard our cries and is nixing auto-advance with its next update, according to Mashable. In its place, Snapchat will be rolling out a feature called Stories Playlist. From the sound of it, Stories Playlist will be a personalized approach to auto-advance that allows users to queue up Stories from their feed and set them to play one after another. This way, you can stick with only the Stories that are “safe” to watch — and leave your ex off the list.
In addition, Snapchat Discover now will appear lower on the Stories page so you can get to your friends’ Stories first. With this, Snapchat has nearly achieved its ideal. Bring back “Best Friends,” and you’d have yourself the perfect app.
