For anyone who hasn’t had internet access recently, Melissa Molinaro — who you might recognize as Kim Kardashian’s Old Navy lookalike — executed a perfectly choreographed Beyoncé routine for her husband at their wedding this past week alongside her bridesmaids. The video has now been watched more than 1 million times.
Molinaro, a designer and singer who will release a single and video later this year, answered some questions for Cosmopolitan.com via email from her honeymoon (!!!) about how she was able to make such magic happen.
When did you decide you were going to do this dance?
I always knew I wanted to do a performance for my husband at my wedding. Always.
Why Beyoncé?
Beyoncé is the hardest working woman in music, maybe on this planet! At this point, she is only in competition with herself because she is truly the Queen. She is my absolute biggest inspiration, for all that she stands for, and she is the best performer of all time. I could go on and on.
How long and how often did you practice? Your bridesmaids?
Over the course of four months we had 16 rehearsals, each rehearsal lasting roughly an hour-and-a-half. I knew the style of choreography I wanted — a feminine yet bossy feel. My friend and choreographer Brinn Nicole [helped me] execute my vision, and my girlfriends, who are all amazing dancers were all so excited to be a part of the performance.
What did your new husband say to you after you finished the routine?
I tried to grab him and kiss him, but he wouldn’t stop telling me how incredible I was and how much he loved me.
Did he have any idea you were planning something — let alone a perfectly choreographed Queen Bey routine?
Bryan said he knew I was up to something but had no idea what it was. He’s still in awe and hasn’t stopped watching the videos.
Who made the incredible bodysuits?
Fashion is such a passion for me and I had the privilege of working with Stephanie Costello (“STELLO”) to design and make the bodysuits. Stephanie is so amazing to work with and she is such a great friend. I can’t thank her enough for helping my vision become a reality.
What are you going to do for your 1-year anniversary?
A Bride FORMATION TOUR of course … LOL!
Were you expecting to go viral?
I knew it would likely get some exposure on social media but had no idea it would go viral.
So many wedding dance videos go viral for the opposite reason — that they’re sweet yet hot MESSES. Were you worried that might be the case?
I’ve been dancing and performing my whole life and I had such an incredible team that took everything as seriously as I did. I knew we would slay!
This is the second time you’ve gone viral (the first time being the aforementioned 2012 Old Navy commercial). What — besides the fact that this was your wedding — makes this time around different?
This was my vision and something special I wanted to do for [my] husband. I don’t know that it’s gets any more special than that. I love that this is the first time I’m getting recognition for all of my hard work and not in comparison to anyone else … although being mentioned alongside Beyoncé might be the second best moment in my life!
