If you’re young and single and feeling despondent about it, I’ma need you to snap out of it this instant!
Your late teens and your 20s are absolutely sacred years that you should protect fiercely – they’re the years where you figure out who you are, your likes and dislikes, what you stand for, what you believe, and what you straight up will not tolerate. That last one becomes more important the older you get, I promise!
There is a lot to be said for flying solo and here are a few fun things to do while you’re single because, not to be morbid, you won’t get this time back…
Want to go teach English in Europe for two weeks over the summer? Want to backpack around South America for six months? Go for it – you get to see new places, experience new things, and meet new people. Great for the ‘Gram and great for the memory bank. Any opportunity you have to travel, grab it! Just make sure you do it safely.
2. Take that course and develop your interests
If you want to learn how to make sushi, or how to code or learn a foreign language for no other purpose than knowing how to speak it, this is the time to do it. This is when you get to be unashamedly selfish with your time and dedicate yourself single-mindedly to self-improvement.
3. Prioritise feeling good
Do things that add to your well-being – whether its an exercise class or daily habits to make your life a bit more organised or even blocking out some time in your diary where your phone goes off and you curl up with a book for an hour. You get to be completely selfish about self care and that's ok.
4. Find your local
Become a regular somewhere, whether it’s a coffee shop, a library or a restaurant. It’s another great way to expand your circle and possibly learn something new. There’s also something nice about having a spot outside a relationship that it is yours. Sometimes you still need your own space.
