You guys, I’m saying it. We’ve had a break in the weather and there has been a drop in humidity. I’m sure of it because my hair decidedly better behaved these days.

As I walk through Media City to the metro in the evenings, without complaining under my breath, that post-summer buzz is definitely upon Dubai. You know, that air of enthusiasm and good nature that goes hand in hand with people no longer dashing from air conditioned building to another. As the weather lets up, cabin fever declines, and awesome outdoor activities are making a much needed comeback.

Cue the return of the outdoor cinema. As someone who grew up going to the drive-in, watching movies outdoors a whole level of nostalgia and come October, you’ll be able to take full advantage.

DUBAI
Urban Outdoor Cinema

Starting Saturday, October 12, you’ll be able to round up your friends, find a grassy perch and set up for the night. The cinema will screen three films a week on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Screenings begin at 7.30pm and tickets are available at the door or online at Platinum List for Dh75 per person. Stay on the lookout; the website will go live shortly.
October’s line up:
Oct 12: Bohemian Rhapsody
Oct 13: Avengers: Endgame

Other titles you can look forward to include A Star Is Born, The Shining, Scream and The Greatest Showman. For all you cult movie fans, Hocus Pocus will screen on October 31 for Halloween.

November will be just as entertaining with much-loved classics like The Breakfast Club, Pretty Woman, Shakespeare in Love, and Big.

ABU DHABI
Cinema in the Park

Cinema in the Park will return to Umm Al Emarat Park. Screenings will start a bit earlier than Dubai, from October 3. Bring the family and enjoy Disney favourites such as Frozen, The Jungle Book, Toy Story 3, Peter Pan, Aladdin and A Bug’s Life.

Entrance to the park is Dhs10 and the screening is free. Other fun activities include face painting, origami workshops, and an appearance from Mushrif the Mascot.

Hang in there… Just a few more weeks.
