Sustainability has become a priority in the world of fashion. Even consumers now are making a conscious effort to protect the environment from metal straws to going vegan.

All the fashion shows and runways in Paris, New York, Milan and even Dubai have designs inspired by the idea of sustainability. It’s a buzz word that brings up the conversation about the production and consumption of fashion in an eco-friendly way that doesn’t harm the environment.

Gen Z are the most ‘woke’ generation right now with huge efforts to protect our planet from protests to social media campaigns. School and colleges now teach the importance of protecting our environment in their curricula which is fantastic.

So, the College of Fashion and Design Dubai has collaborated with the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) to launch the ‘Save the Amazon’ competition.

It’s the second annual competition and is designed to encourage students to create outfits based on a category; Zero Waste Fashion, Up-Cycling Fashion, and Reconstruction of Waste Textile. The winner will be able to display their designs at the CFD Catwalk Show on November 14.

But that’s not all…

CFD will be giving away special prizes and scholarships to the winner and runner up!

Fashion is all about expression and for Gen Z (AKA Us), sustainability is our core value and it’s the clothes we wear that reflect that. So CFD and EEG’s competition is a great change for all of us to showcase that value in our designs.

So ladies, what are you waiting for? Get designing!
